NATIONAL ACADEMY OF MEDICINE

IS CREATED AS AN HONORARY INSTITUTION OF EXCLUSIVE SCIENTIFIC CHARACTER

The State Council approved the following

LAW PROJECT

Article 1 °.
(Objective). -Create the National Academy of Medicine as an honorary institution of exclusive scientific character for the following purposes:

A) Congregate the most representative of the medical sciences in order to intensify and encourage the study of the same, to disseminate the results of their works in the country and abroad for prestige of the national culture.
C) To promote by all means its reach, the worship of dignity in the professional exercise and in the scientific activities of the medicine.

Article 2 °.
(Training). -The National Academy of Medicine will be made up of members of these categories:

A) Holder or Number.
B) Emeritus.
C) Fees, national or foreign.
D) Corresponding nationals or foreigners.

The Members shall not be less than twenty or more than forty.
The National Academy of Medicine shall comprise several sections, the number and organisation of which shall be determined by the Staff Regulations and Regulations.

Article 3 °.
(Initial Constitution). -The initial core of Members will be appointed by a Commission composed of a delegate from the University, who will preside, with decision-making in the event of a tie, a delegate of the Faculty of Medicine, a delegate of the Medical Association of the Uruguay and a delegate of the Emeritus Teachers of the Faculty of Medicine, elected by vote among the Emeritus Teachers themselves.
The Members or Number of Members appointed in accordance with the previous article, will elect by a majority of votes the people who will integrate the Academy, being able to designate to complete the maximum number of Members.

Article 4 °.
(Requirements to be elected Member). -The conditions to be elected Member or Academy Number Member are as follows:

l °) Natural or legal citizenship in exercise.
2 °) Moral personality recognized publicly.
3 °) Decollating performance in medical sciences or in the exercise of teaching in medical disciplines.
4 °) Being an author of works scientists published or presented in medical societies, or have contributed to the progress of medicine in the direction of technical institutes or in establishments dedicated to the care of patients.

The same conditions will be required to be designated Honorary or Corresponding Member. Except for foreign nationals of the condition provided for in the numeral 1 °.
The conditions for the election of Emeritus Member will be established in the Rules of Procedure of the Academy.

Article 5 °.
(Member Designation). -Academy authorities will be appointed in accordance with what is established by their Rules of Procedure.

Article 6 °.
(Statute and Regulations). -Once the persons designated in accordance with Article 39 are integrated, they will dictate their Statute, the approval of which will require two-thirds of the total votes of their constituents and will dictate their Rules of Procedure by a simple majority.

Article 7 °.
The Ministry of Education and Culture shall adopt appropriate measures for the installation of the Academy including the integration referred to in Article 39 of this Law as well as to provide it with the material means necessary for its operation.
