1 This ordinance governs the training leading to the BCL and Master's degrees awarded by the EPFL.
2 The bachelor and master's studies constitute the two successive phases of this training.
The admission to the training leading to the bachelor and master's degree is determined by the order of 8 May 1995 concerning admission to the Federal Polytechnic University of Lausanne 1 .

1 The EPFL awards the following titles in its fields of study (sections or domains): 1
2 The titles shall bear the seal of the EPFL and shall mention the name of the holder. They are signed by the President of the EPFL, by the Vice-President for Academic Affairs at the EPFL and by the Section Director. They are accompanied by the "supplement supplement" describing the level, context, content and status of the studies carried out successfully. The titles mention the field of study and, for the master, the professional designation of the holder, as well as any particular orientation.
3 The bachelor's degree aims to facilitate admission to master's studies at another high school. It is issued to the registered student of the EPFL before obtaining the master's degree.
4 Every holder of the diploma of the EPFL (art. 15, para. 1) is entitled to present himself as the holder of the EPFL master's degree (Annex I).
5 The list of titles and designations corresponding to the fields of study is set out in Annex I to this Order.
6 Master titles awarded by the EPFL commonly with other institutions are governed by the specific agreements.
7 The EPFL also awards the title of Doctor of Science (or Ph. D.) and other titles corresponding to continuing education. These titles are subject to specific orders.

1 The EPFL allocates credits for controlled studies in accordance with the European Credit Transfer and Accumulation System (ECTS). The number of credits defined for a material is a function of the volume of work to be provided in order to achieve the training objective.
2 ECTS credits are acquired on a cumulative basis according to the conditions laid down in the Ordinance of 14 June 2004 on the control of studies at EPFL 1 . Regulations for the application of the control of studies referred to in s. 6, para. 1 of the said ordinance define the number of credits allocated to each branch of study.
3 The study plans referred to in s. 6, para. 2, the EPFL Study Control Ordinance is designed to allow for the acquisition of 60 ECTS credits per academic year.
1 Successful the bachelor student who acquired 180 ECTS credits in accordance with the order of 14 June 2004 on the control of studies at EPFL 1 And the implementing regulations referred to in s. 6, para. 1, of the said order.
2 Upon successful completion of the master the student who acquired, in addition to the bachelor's degree, 60 ECTS credits, respectively 90 ECTS credits for the sections which require them in accordance with Annex I, and passed the master's project representing 30 credits, in accordance with The order of 14 June 2004 on the control of studies at EPFL and the implementing regulations. 2

1 The EPFL bachelor's degree consists of two successive stages of training:

1 The propaedeutic cycle extends over a year of study and ends with the protro-therapeutic examination.
2 Its objective is to verify basic knowledge, acquire the necessary skills for the continuation of training in the natural sciences and an initiation in the humanities and social sciences.
3 Its duration may not exceed two years.
4 The success of the propaedeutic examination allows to acquire 60 ECTS credits and is the condition for entering the bachelor's cycle.
1 The bachelor's cycle extends over two years of study.
2 Its objective is to acquire the general and specific scientific bases in the field of study and to a sector of the humanities and social sciences.
3 Its duration may not exceed four years.
4 The bachelor's cycle is deemed successful by the acquisition of 120 ECTS credits. The success of the bachelor's cycle is the condition for entering the master cycle. Art. 31, para. 1, of the order of 14 June 2004 on the control of studies at EPFL 1 Is reserved. 2

1 Its objective is to acquire the specific knowledge of the field of study allowing the mastery of the profession, as well as the study of a discipline of the humanities and social sciences.
2 The duration of the master cycle of 60 ECTS credits shall be one year, but shall not exceed two years; the cycle of 90 ECTS credits shall be one and a half years, but shall not exceed three years.
3 The master cycle is deemed successful by the acquisition of 60 or 90 ECTS credits.

1 The required appropriations must be acquired in the durations fixed for each training cycle by this order. The studies cannot be interrupted between the propaedeutic cycle and the bachelor's cycle, nor between the master cycle and the master project.
2 In derogation from para. 1, the Vice-President, Academic Affairs may extend the maximum duration of a training cycle or grant a break between two cycles to a student who has a good cause, including a long illness, a maternity, a Period of military service, as soon as he becomes aware of it and before the expiry of the maximum period.
1 Under mobility, the EPFL can authorise students to study a semester or a year in another high school, or to do the master's project in another high school, in the public sector or in the industry, by remaining registered to the The EPFL. The checks of the achievements made successfully in another high school are taken into account, provided that the programme of studies has been previously established with the EPFL's field of study.
