TEXT

The need to create an Honorary Consular Office of Spain in Santa Maria (Sal Island), Republic of Cape Verde, is justified by the archipelagic nature of the country, which has nine inhabited islands and the consequent transport complications between them, which make it difficult to protect and effectively assist Spaniards and tourists in that area.

Therefore, on the initiative of the Directorate General of the Foreign Service, in accordance with the proposal made by the Embassy of Spain in Praia, with the favorable report of the Directorate General for Consular and Migration Affairs and of the Directorate General for Africa, I have had to arrange:

First.

An Honorary Consular Office is created in Santa Maria (Sal Island), with jurisdiction in the Island of Sal, Boavista Island and the Island of São Nicolau, with the category of Viceconsulado Honorary and dependent of the Embassy of Spain Praia (Republic of Cape Verde).

Second.

As a result of the creation of the Honorary Consular Office in Santa Maria (Sal Island), the jurisdiction of the Viceconsulado Honorary of Spain in Mindelo is confined to the island of São Vicente and the island of Santo Antao.

Third.

The Head of the Honorary Consular Office of Spain in Santa Maria will have, in accordance with Article 9 of the Vienna Convention on Consular Relations of 24 April 1963, the category of Honorary Viceconsul.

Madrid, October 26, 2011. -Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, Trinidad Jiménez García-Herrera.
