Portugal has been strengthening international judicial cooperation in criminal matters with the
Argentina, Brazil and Spain, iber-American countries with which it is linked
by solid historical and cultural links, seeking, in particular, to deepen the
mechanisms of coordinated fight against cross-border crime and impunity.
With that goal, the governments of Portugal, Argentina, Brazil and Spain
signed, in Santiago de Compostela, on November 3, 2010, an Agreement on
Simplified extradition.
This Agreement approves a simplified procedure of extradition of persons claimed
for the purpose of criminal procedure or for compliance with a penalty that has been
imposed by the practice of a crime that admits extradition, enabling, by this route,
streamline your springboard, reduce difficulties and simplify the rules governing the
operation of such procedures between the Parties.
This Agreement shall be open to the accession of other member countries of the Conference of
Ministers of Justice of Ibero-American Countries.
It is thus of particular importance to proceed with the approval of the Agreement.
