Proposal for Resolution No 39 /XII

The European Community and its Member States, on the one hand, and the States of the

CARIFORUM, on the other, signed in Bridgetown, Barbados, on October 15, 2008

and in Haiti on December 10, 2009, the Economic Partnership Agreement.

The present partnership has been presented by the European Commission as the first in nature

trade and truly comprehensive North-South development on a global scale.

This Agreement falls within the framework of a negotiation as per the objectives that

are listed in the Cotonou Agreement and the negotiating guidelines for the partnership agreements

economic with the states of Africa, the Caribbean and the Pacific (ACP) adopted by the Council

of the European Union on June 12, 2002.

Thus:

Under the terms of the paragraph d) of Article 197 (1) of the Constitution, the Government presents to the

Assembly of the Republic the following motion for a resolution:

Approve the Economic Partnership Agreement between the CARIFORUM States, by a

side, and the European Community and its Member States, of the other part, signed in

Bridgetown, Barbados, on October 15, 2008, in Brussels, Kingdom of Belgium, at 20 am

October 2008, in Port-au-Prince, Haiti, on December 10, 2009, including the

Attachments, Protocols and Joint Statements, Statement, Joint Statement and Ata

Final, the text of which, in the authenticated version in Portuguese language, publishes in attachment.
