1 MOTION for a RESOLUTION paragraph 90/X 169/2008 PR 2008.05.29 whereas the Portuguese Republic is member of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) and that is the majority of conventions adopted under its auspices; Considering that these are agreements that aim to build a system of legal protection of works, performances and productions protected, effective, rigorous and based on protection of intellectual property based on a high level of protection, which allows the creation of basic conditions of development, worldwide, of the activities – works, performances, cultural products and services – and their agents, encouraging the creation the production, trade and technological development related to cultural industries market. So: under d) of paragraph 1 of article 197 of the Constitution, the Government presents to the Assembly of the Republic the following resolution: to approve the Treaty on intellectual property Organization performances and Phonograms Treaty, adopted at Geneva on 20 December 1996, the text of the authenticated version in the English language, as well as their translation into Portuguese language , published in the annex.
