PRESIDENCY of the COUNCIL of MINISTERS 1 motion for a resolution paragraph 124/X whereas the adoption of the Convention on the rights of persons with disabilities resulted from the general consensus of the international community about the need to ensure the respect for the integrity, dignity and personal liberty of citizens with disabilities and strengthening the prohibition of discrimination of those citizens through laws , policies and programs that meet specifically to its characteristics and promote your participation in society; Whereas the Convention safeguarding the integrity, freedom and privacy of persons with disabilities, ensuring their social rights, political, economic and cultural rights and safeguards their specific rights as regards accessibility, autonomy, mobility, integration, qualification and rehabilitation, participation in society and access to all goods and services; Whereas in addition to the responsibility of society as a whole, Governments and civil society in the fight against discrimination of people with disabilities, is a system of international monitoring of the implementation of the Convention, through which the Committee on the rights of persons with disabilities, created by the Convention and composed of independent experts, will review the progress made at national level, based on national reports submitted by the States parties; Whereas the Convention on the rights of persons with disabilities is thus a milestone in ensuring and promoting the human rights of all citizens and in particular for people with disabilities.

PRESIDENCY of the COUNCIL of MINISTERS So 2: under d) of paragraph 1 of article 197 of the Constitution, the Government presents to the Assembly of the Republic the following resolution: to approve the Convention on the rights of persons with disabilities, adopted at New York on 30 March 2007, the text of which, in the authenticated version in the English language, as well as their translation into Portuguese language , published in the annex.
