Considering the aim of promoting an international air transport system
based on fair competition between air carriers in a market with a minimum
government intervention and regulation;
Recognizing the need to proceed to a gradual opening of markets with
a view to the liberalization of air services between the parties;
Considering that this Agreement is an important step towards the realization of a
integrated trans-Atlantic aviation market advantageous for consumers.
Thus:
Under the terms of the paragraph d) of Article 197 (1) of the Constitution, the Government presents to the
Assembly of the Republic the following motion for a resolution:
Approves the Air Transport Agreement between the European Community and its
Member States, on the one hand, and the United States of America, on the other hand, signed in
Brussels to April 25, 2007 and in Washington to April 30, 2007, including the
Annexes 1 a to 5 and the Joint Declaration, the text of which, in the authenticated version in language
portuguese, it publishes in annex.
