BE IT enacted by the Seri Paduka Baginda Yang di-Pertuan Agong with the advice and consent of the Dewan Negara and Dewan Rakyat in Parliament assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows: short title 1. This Act may be cited as the adult Age Act 1971.
Age of adults 2. Subject to section 4, the age of a minor for all male and female is and is limited to eighteen years and every men and women who reach age is the age of adults in the country.
Interpretation 3. (1) all age calculation under this Act shall be calculated according to the Gregorian calendar.
(2) in calculating a person's age, the day that person is born shall be counted as a full day, and he shall be deemed to have reached the age of eighteen years at the beginning of the eighteenth anniversary of that day.
021b.fm Page 5 Monday, March 27, 2006 5:03 PM 6 laws of Malaysia ACT 21 Saving 4. There is nothing in this Act shall affect — (a) the ability of any person to act in the following matters, that is, marriage, divorce, Mahar and adoption;
(b) religious and ritual and religious conventions for a particular class of persons in Malaysia;
(c) any provisions contained in any other written law that set the age of adults for the purpose of the written law.
Repeal 5. Law set out in the schedule are hereby repealed.
