Academic degrees, first level professional higher education, second level professional higher education and higher professional qualifications, as well as the resulting scientific qualifications certify such documents in higher education: a Bachelor's diploma and 2.1 masters diploma (annex 1);
2.2. first level professional higher education diploma (annex 2);
2.3. higher education diploma and higher diploma of professional qualifications (annex 3);
2.4. a Bachelor's degree in professional and higher professional qualifications professional diploma, master's diploma and higher professional qualifications professional diploma or master's diploma (annex 4);
2.5. the doctoral diploma (annex 5). 3. The rules referred to in paragraph 2.1 of the diplomas issued by the person who acquired the accredited academic Bachelor or master study programme and to fulfil all the relevant national education standard. 4. The rules referred to in point 2.2 of the diploma shall be issued by the person who acquired the first accredited level professional higher education study programme and to fulfil all the relevant national education standard. 5. The rules referred to in point 2.3 of the diplomas issued by the person who acquired the second-level accredited professional higher education study programme and to fulfil all the relevant national education standard. 6. The provisions referred to in point 2.4 of the diploma shall be issued by the person who acquired the professional accredited bachelor or master study programme and to fulfil all the relevant national education standard. 7. The provisions referred to in point 2.5 of the diploma shall be issued to the person who obtained the degree of doctor of laws for the Betterment of procedures and criteria. 8. This provision 2.1., 2.2., 2.3 and 2.4 below the diplomas referred to in points added to the Diploma Supplement in Latvian and English languages (annex 6). 9. in paragraph 2 of this rule, these diplomas are made of white coated cardboard (250 g/m2). Diploma size is A5 format (148 x 210 mm), and they have four pages. 10. Diploma page is covered with a uniform design protection grid, which printed by offset machinery commercial. The diploma page protection grid colors are: 10.1. Bachelor's diploma-grey;
10.2. the first level professional higher education diploma-Green;
10.3. the professional Bachelor's diploma and master's diploma, as well as professional diploma of higher education and advanced vocational qualification diploma-pink;

10.5. PhD diploma-blue. 11. This provision 2.1., 2.2., 2.3 and 2.4 of the diplomas referred to in the series is denoted by the Latin capital letter starting with E. This provision in the diploma referred to in point 2.5 series is denoted by the Latin capital letter D. Diploma number is a four-digit number starting at 0001. The diplomas, which is not the issue launched a new series, numbering continues. 12. Diploma Supplement Series, and the number corresponds to the diploma series and number. 13. The report shall be signed by the Rector of the University or College, and graduate school director or College until next January 31, submit a report to the Ministry of education and science. 29. The manufacturer until the end of the year draws up a report for the period from 1 January to 31 December of a given University or college diplomas issued and manufactured forms (annex 10) and until next January 31, submit it to the Ministry of education and science. 30. This provision 2.1., 2.2. and 2.3. diplomas referred to below, which are made pursuant to the Cabinet of Ministers on 21 June 2005 Regulation No 450 "procedures for submitting the State recognized higher education and degrees of supporting educational documents", universities and colleges are eligible to issue up to 31 December 2008. 31. The decision on accreditation of the program accepts Accreditation Commission, but for universities and colleges-higher education Accreditation Council. University and program status-http://www.aiknc.lv note. 1 Credit (KP) in Latvia is defined as one week of full time study work. One year, the amount for full-time study are 40 credits. All holders of certificates and diplomas of the general secondary education or vocational secondary education meet the general admission requirements. Bachelor (BA) and master (master's) degrees are awarded in both academic and professional, in the higher education program. The objective of academic higher education (HE) to prepare graduates for an independent research, as well as to provide theoretical background for professional activities. Academic program, leading to a bachelor degree, a 120-160 credits1 compris: compulsory for-> 50 (75 ECTS) credits, electiv > 20 (30 ECTS) credits, thesis > 10 (15 ECTS) credits, and the rest is left for students as free choice. Duration of full-time studies is 6-8 semester. Academic program, leading to a Masters degree, of compris 80 (120 ECTS) credits, of which > 20 (30 ECTS) credits are allocated for thesis, compulsory part of the programme includes theoretical aspects of the specific field of scientific discipline > 30 (45 ECTS) credits and their practical applications in solving of actual problems > 15 (22.5 ECTS) credits. Academic education program with the implemented according to the State standard of academic education. Higher education (HE) the objective of professional HEAT with it to provide in-depth knowledge in a particular field, preparing graduates for desing or improvement of systems, products and technologies, as well as to prepare them for creative, research and teaching activities in this field. Professional program leading to a HEAT, a professional bachelor degree is designed with the professional competence, they ensur compris at least 160 (240 ECTS) credits and they consis of: general courses > 20 (30 ECTS) credits, theoretical courses of the chosen field > 36 (54 ECTS) credits, specialization courses > 60 (90 ECTS) credits, optional courses > 6 (9 ECTS) credits, practical placement > 26 (39 ECTS) credits , and State examination in including thesis > 12 (18 ECTS) credits. Professional program leading to a HEAT, professional master degree, compris from less than 40 (60 ECTS) credits: up-to-date achievements in the field-in theory and in practice > 7 (10.5 ECTS) credits, practical placements > 6 (9 ECTS) credits, State examination of including thesis > 20 (30 ECTS) credits as well as research training, courses of design, management, psychology etc. Graduates of both types of the bachelor degree have access to master studies, graduates of the master degree-doctoral studies. Studies in medicine, dentistry and pharmacy professional studies (5 and 6 year studies), with equal to the master degree and the graduates can continue their studies in doctoral level programs. Apart from the program, leading to bachelor and master degrees, there are other types of professional higher education program. • first-level professional HE (university college) program of the compris 80-120 (120-180 ECTS) credits and lead it to the 4th level professional qualification. These programmes are targeted mainly to the labour market. Yet, the graduates of the first-level programmes can continue their studies in second-level professional programme. • second-level professional HE programmes lead to the 5th level professional qualification. Such programmes can either at least 40 compris (60 ECTS) credits for holders of the bachelor degree or at least 160 (240 ECTS) credits for secondary school leaver. In both cases the program should include a practical placement of at least 26 (39 ECTS) credits and graduation examination for including thesis > 10 (15 ECTS) credits. Graduate of the program including the 70 (105 ECTS) credits compulsory for of the bachelor program, have access to master studies. Doctoral studies From January 1, 2000, a single type of doctoral degree (Dr.) is being awarded in Latvia. The degree of master is required for admission to doctoral studies. Doctoral degree is awarded after public defence of doctoral thesis and successfully passed exams in the chosen scientific discipline. The doctoral thesis has to include the original results of the research and new cognition in the scientific discipline and may be a result of three to four years of doctoral studies at a higher education institution or an equivalent amount of independent research. The doctoral thesis may be a dissertation, the assemblage of a single peer reviewed publications topically or monograph. The rights to award the doctoral degree are delegated by decision of the Cabinet of the Minister of the promotion council is established at the universities. The procedure for awarding the doctoral degree is controlled by the Commission of the Scientific Qualification. Grading system: a 10-point grading scheme for the knowledge assessment.
