The Saeima has adopted and the President promulgated the following laws: the Latvian Red Cross law article 1. (1) of the Act is to promote social welfare and international humanitarian law, in support of society "Latvian Red Cross" (hereinafter referred to as Latvian Red Cross) in cooperation with State and local institutions, public involvement in the work of these organizations and to ensure the Red Cross emblem.
(2) this law shall determine the Latvian Red Cross, legal status, operational mission, the Red Cross emblem and designation "Red Cross" use. 2. article. (1) the Latvian Red Cross Society, which is the society and Foundation Law Association and Foundation.

The Latvian Red Cross is part of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent movement. The Latvian Red Cross has the following basic tasks: 1) provide assistance for the victims of armed conflicts;
2) be ready to respond to an emergency, providing assistance to victims, to train people in first aid;
3) make humanitarian work for the public good;
4) in cooperation with the Ministry of Interior and Ministry of Foreign Affairs to take the missing persons search, armed conflicts the fallen person burial site identification, communication with persons who are located in areas of armed conflict, and to promote family reunification;
5) to promote international humanitarian law and the International Red Cross movement's fundamental principles;
6) to promote and develop royalty-free blood donors, grant honorary donor name multiple blood donors. Honorary donor designation criteria and honorary donor card procedure determined by the Cabinet of Ministers. 6. article. The Red Cross emblem, as well as the name "Red Cross" is used in accordance with the Geneva Conventions and their additional protocols, this law and other laws. 7. article. The emblem of the Red Cross has two functions: 1) protective;
2) leader. 8. article. The Red Cross emblem as a protective sign used: 1) the Latvian Red Cross;

4) other persons who are involved in the provision of assistance to the wounded, the sick and victims. 9. article. Treatment in the event of armed conflict and other persons who provide medical assistance, national armed forces soldiers involved in the wounded, ill and injured, in the search the collection, transport or other assistance to them, as well as chaplains, Latvian Red Cross members and other persons involved in the provision of assistance to the wounded, the sick and victims, wear hand coverings and use identification cards with the Red Cross emblem. 3) to mark the charity shipment: a) disaster, including in cases of armed conflict, poor and disadvantaged);
4) to the Latvian Red Cross issued thanks and awards. 11. article. The Latvian Red Cross is entitled to issue written permission to others to use the Red Cross emblem, which comply with the overall activities of the Red Cross and the International Red Cross and Red Crescent movement's fundamental principles and encourage the Latvian Red Cross activities. 12. article. The Red Cross emblem and designation "Red Cross" use violations a person is referred to legal liability. The Parliament adopted the law of 8 April 2009.
