Chapter 1.

Reduction of Gender Equality Council.

§ 1. The Cabinet set up an Equal Status




Chapter 2.

Equality Council task.


§ 2. Equality Council has the task of promoting equality between men and women in Greenland. Equality Council may, on its own initiative or upon request, examine matters relating to gender equality.
Subsection. 2. Equality Council shall:
1) to monitor changes in society
2) act as advisory body to the Home Rule, municipalities and private in gender issues,
3) serve as contact points for their equality bodies etc. in Scandinavia and
4) encourage and contribute to information for citizens and authorities on equality.
Subsection. 3. Equality Council shall submit an annual report to the Cabinet and parliament on the past year's work.




Chapter 3.

Equality Council organization.


§ 3. Equality Council shall consist of a Chairman and ten members. The Cabinet shall appoint a chairman. The Cabinet appoints ten members on the recommendation of the paragraph. 2 and 3, organizations and parties. The chairman and the members are appointed for four years at a time, starting at Equality Council was set up. The Cabinet must strive for a gender balance by appointing its members. Both genders must be represented by at least four members.
Subsection. 2. The following organizations set as far as possible a man and a woman:
1) The Greenlandic Association of Local Authorities,
2) Sulinermik Inuussutissarsiuteqartut Kattuffiat
3) The Greenland employer associations
4) of officials and Contractual Employees Organization Greenland
5) KNAPK
6) Greenland Female Societies Association
7) Sorlak
Subsection. 3. The three parties with the greatest representation in the parliament, setting each as far as possible a man and a woman.



§ 4. The organizations mentioned in § 3 paragraph. 2 may be as far as possible to set a man and a woman, when their member of the Gender Equality Council
1) are no longer members of the organization or
2) is no longer able to perform his duties.
Subsection. 2. The parties mentioned in § 3 paragraph. 3 may be as far as possible to set a man and a woman, when their member of the Gender Equality Council is no longer able to perform his duties.

§ 5. Equality Council shall adopt its rules of procedure.






Equality Council Secretariat.


§ 6. Equality Council establishes its own secretariat to perform their daily work.
Subsection. 2. Equality Council has the power to hire and fire staff of the Secretariat. Regarding the terms of employment and dismissal of staff of the Secretariat's Gender Equality Council is obliged to follow the rules at any time apply to employees of the Greenland Home Rule.




Chapter 4.

Finance.


§ 7. Equality Council funded through grants from the Treasury.
Subsection. 2. Equality Council has also the opportunity to seek funding from private organizations or public authorities for its activities.
Subsection. 3. Equality Council, within its intended meaning. § 2, operate, resulting in revenue.

§ 8. Members of the Gender Equality Council receives remuneration, allowances and refund of travel expenses under the provisions of Act on the remuneration paid to members of the parliament, the Greenland government, etc. This expenditure within the annual grant from the Treasury.



Budget and Accounts.


§ 9. Equality Council shall each year the Cabinet a draft budget for the following fiscal year. The proposal must include estimates of revenue and expenditure. Equality Council shall simultaneously submit proposals for the amount of the government subsidy for the said fiscal year.
Subsection. 2. The Cabinet set a deadline for submitting the draft budget and proposals for the amount of the government subsidy for the coming fiscal year.

§ 10. Equality Council's financial year is the fiscal year. The financial statements audited by a certified auditor.

§ 11. Equality Council shall submit, within one of our government set deadline, the audited financial statements accompanied by audit observations for our government for approval.





Chapter 5.

Entry into force.



§ 12. This law shall enter into force on 1 July 1998.
Subsection. 2. At the same time Parliament Act no. 17 of 8 November 1985 on Greenland Equality.
