THE LEGISLATIVE ASSEMBLY OF THE REPUBLIC OF THE SALVADOR,

CONSIDERING:

I.- That article 61 of the Constitution of the Republic provides that higher education shall be governed by a special and conditional law which shall be provided with social service.

II.- Article 67 of the Constitution provides that public health services shall be essentially technical and that health, hospital, paramedical and hospital careers are established.

III.- That article 2 of the Law on Higher Education, adopted by Legislative Decree No. 468, dated 14 October 2004, published in Official Gazette No. 216, Volume No. 365 of 19 November 2004, defines as one of its objectives, the formation of competent professionals with strong vocation of service and solid ethical principles; and article 5 of the same law defines the academic degrees, including that of Doctor.

IV.- That article 13 of the same law defines that in order to obtain the degree of Doctor in Medicine, which does not previously require other academic degrees, the sum of the value units that the aspirant to the degree of Doctor must win, may not be less than two hundred and twenty-four units, with a curriculum of a duration not less than seven years.

Describe the following:

REFORM TO THE SUPERIOR EDUCATION LAW

Art. 1.- Refer to article 13 (3) of the Higher Education Act, adopted by Legislative Decree No. 468, dated 14 October 2004, published in Official Gazette No. 216, Volume No. 365 of 19 November 2004 as follows:

“Without prejudice to the preceding paragraphs, the degree of Doctor in Medicine and Doctor in Dentistry may be accessed without having previously obtained other academic degrees; but in any case, the sum of the units valorative, that the aspirant to the degree of Doctor must win, may not be less than two hundred and twenty four units valorative, with a plan of studies of a duration not less than seven years, and have fulfilled, in the case of the doctorate in an internal ”

Art. 2.- This Decree shall enter into force eight days after its publication in the Official Gazette.
