1. Decree No. 717, the Legislative Assembly of the Republic of EL SALVADOR: I.-that in accordance with article 131, paragraph 11 of the Constitution, is Faculty of this Decree Legislative Assembly, generally, benefits and tax incentives or of any nature, for the promotion of cultural, scientific, agricultural, industrial, or other.
II.-that the Department of San Vicente, has been recognized since time immemorial, as the land where grown sweet potato, forging culinary traditions with the elaboration of different candies that are prepared with this fruit of the Earth as the antecamote and piloncillo cones of the sweet potato, which in addition of being source of life for many families in the region, has become a fundamental resource for the economy of many people.
III.-that currently inhabitants of San Vicente are enhancing the promotion and development of the production of sweet potatoes as part of a strategy to rescue the culture of our peoples and their customs, promoting the resurgence of the sweet potato cultivation and the production of their national and international marketing purposes, which is why, have had the initiative to celebrate the "II Festival of the sweet potatoes in the city of San Vicente".
Therefore, in use of his constitutional powers and at the initiative of MEPs: Félix Ágreda Chachagua, Eugenio Donato Vaquerano Rivas, and with the support of the Deputy Heydi Carolina Mira Saravia.
Decree: Article 1. -Declare the third Saturday of the month of June of each year, the "National day of sweet potato".
Article 2.-this Decree shall enter into force eight days after its publication in the official journal.
