DECREE No. 717

THE LEGISLATIVE ASSEMBLY OF THE REPUBLIC OF EL SALVADOR,

CONSIDERING:

I.-That in accordance with Article 131, ordinal 11 of the Constitution, it is the faculty of this Legislative Assembly to decree, in a general manner, benefits and tax incentives or of any nature, for the promotion of cultural, scientific, agricultural, industrial, or other activities.

II. Department of San Vicente, has been recognized since unmemorable times, like the land where the sweet potato is grown, forging culinary traditions with the elaboration of the various sweets that are prepared with this fruit of the earth as the antecamote "Camote", which, in addition to being a source of life for many families in the region, has become a fundamental resource for many people's economy.

III. promotion and traditional development of the production of the sweet potato as part of a strategy for rescue of the culture of our peoples and their customs, promoting the resurgence of the cultivation of the sweet potato and the production of its sweets for national and international marketing purposes, which is why they have had the initiative to celebrate the "II Festival of the Camote in the City of St. Vincent".

BY TANTO,

in use of its Constitutional faculties and at the initiative of the Deputies: Felix Agreda Chachagua, Donato Eugenio Vaquerano Rivas, and with the support of the Diputada Heydi Carolina Mira Saravia.

DECRETA:

Art. 1. -Declare the third Saturday of June of each year, "NATIONAL DAY OF THE SWEET POTATO".

Art. 2. This Decree shall enter into force eight days after its publication in the Official Journal.

GIVEN IN THE BLUE HALL OF THE LEGISLATIVE PALACE: San Salvador, at the twentieth day of the month of June of the year two thousand fourteen.
