DECREE NO 178
THE LEGISLATIVE ASSEMBLY OF THE REPUBLIC OF EL SALVADOR,
CONSIDERING:
I.-That by Legislative Decree No. 680, dated October 20, 1993, published in Official Journal No. 6, Volume No. 322 of January 10, 1994, the Law was issued
of Baggage of Foreign Travellers.
II.-That the Art. 4 of the aforementioned Law, states that the traveler can introduce goods
of taxes, the total customs value of which is not greater than the equivalent of A THOUSAND DOLLARS OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA ($1,000.00).
III.-That in the time of Christmas and new year, many compatriots who live abroad return to our country, with the purpose of sharing with their families such festivities, occasion that they take advantage of to bring gifts, beings
of family use and other different articles.
IV.-That these Salvadorans have migrated in search of work, with which our country has been favored by the income of foreign exchange from remittances
one of the largest items for the collection of such currencies.
V.-What is appropriate to pay them partly their contribution to the economy of the country, allowing them to introduce free baggage of levies in excess of the amount established in the aforementioned Law for a limited time.
FOR TANTO,
in use of its constitutional powers and Member Francisco Zablah's initiative.
DECRETA:
Art. 1.-temporarily modify from the validity of this Decree, and until 31 January 2016, Art. 4 of the Law on the Baggage of Passengers from the Exterior, as follows:
" Art. 4.-The traveler may also introduce with exemption from the payment of duties and taxes, new goods whose total customs value does not exceed the equivalent of ONE THOUSAND FIVE HUNDRED DOLLARS
THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA ($1,500.00). "
Art. 2.-This Decree shall enter into force from 1 December 2015, prior to
publication in the Official Journal.
