DECREE NO 317

THE LEGISLATIVE ASSEMBLY OF THE REPUBLIC OF EL SALVADOR,

CONSIDERING:

I.-According to the Constitution of the Republic in Article 65, the health of the inhabitants is a public good and that it is the duty of the State and the people to preserve and restore it, and the State will determine the National Health Policies.

II.-That by Legislative Decree No. 955 dated March 28, 1988 and published in D. O. No. 86 Tomo 299, the Health Code was issued, with the aim of developing the Constitutional principles related to public health and social assistance of the inhabitants of the Republic.

III. Article 131 of that Law establishes the list of diseases which must be declared compulsorily and which have already elapsed to the date twenty-eight years from the entry into force of that Law, and due to the constant evolution of the Diseases, as is the case for vector-borne diseases such as Chikunkpáldo and Zika, we need to reform the Article 131 of the Health Code.

in use of its powers and at the initiative of the Diputadas and Diputado Guillermo Francisco Mata Bennett, Zoila Beatriz Quijada Solis, María Elizabeth Gómez Perla and Ana Victoria Mendoza de Zacarias.

DECRETA, the following:

HEALTH CODE REreform

Art. 1.-Join the list set out in Article 131, the following:

"Zika virus.

Chikunkestu."

Art. 2.-This Decree will enter into force eight days after its publication in the Official Journal.
