PARAMETERS DEFINING THE ENGINE FAMILY, AND DETERMINATION OF THE PARENT ENGINE

1. Engine family

The engine family it is possible to include only those engines that are

the emission of pollutants in exhaust gases have similar properties.

The engine family is determined by the design parameters that are common to

for the engines put out to the family. Some engines with different design

parameters can influence each other. When you check the engine to the family is

need to apply knowledge on the mutual influence of design parameters

the period of the engine.

Engines that belong to the same family, must have these same basic

parameters, or properties:

a) combustion cycle two or four stroke,

b) cooling medium air, water or oil,

c) individual cylinder displacement must be in the range of 85% to 100

% of the largest displacement engine,

(d)) the way air intake,

e) fuel type,

f) design of the combustion chamber,

g) valves and channels, in particular whether the valves and channels of the same

the arrangement, dimensions, and number of,

h) fuel system, in particular, whether it is used the fuel system

karburátorový, with indirect injection or direct injection,

I) design and

(j)) exhaust after-treatment, in particular whether they are processed

the exhaust gases oxidizing catalytic converter, or reducing catalyst

or three-way catalyst or thermal reactor, or filter

the particles.

2. choice of the parent engine

In the determination of the basic engine, which characterizes the engine family

and) is the main criterion highest fuel delivery per stroke at the

the stated speed for maximum torque; in the event that this

the criterion fulfils two or more engines at the same time, then for the option

the parent engine shall be used as an additional condition of highest fuel delivery

per stroke at rated speed,

(b)), the approval authority may conclude that the worst-case emission level

pollutants of engine family shall determine by examination the next or another

the engine; Subsequently, the approval authority will select an additional engine for tests of the

the family, whose characteristics suggest that emissions

pollutants from exhaust gases will be the worst,

(c)) it is necessary to take into account the different characteristics of the engine family, which would

could be considered to affect the emissions of pollutants

substances from exhaust, and is taken into account in the choice of the parent engine.

2. Part 1 of the EC type-approval number consists of the letter "e", followed by

followed by an Arabic numeral indicating the approval authority responsible for

the grant of approval. The designation "e8" shall be restricted to the Czech approval

authority.

5. Part 4 is reserved for the four digits, which is a number from 1 to 9999

that determines the order of the basic EC type-approval. Each approval authority

the numbering starts with the number 1 and the remaining space left to the following, in the case

If necessary, the digits "0".

6. Part 5 is reserved for two-digit number, which specifies the number of

extensions of the basic EC type-approval. Basic approval are
