The COMMUNICATION FROM the

The Federal Ministry of Foreign Affairs says that the 29 April. August 1991
It was agreed by Exchange of letters in Lisbon of the arrangement between the Government of the Czech and
Slovak Federal Republic and the Government of the Portuguese Republic
the abolition of the visa requirement.
Agreement entered into force on the day of 19. September 1992.

Excellence,
referring to the recent meeting of representatives of the Governments of the Czech and Slovak
Federative Republic and the Portuguese Republic with a view to facilitating the path
the citizens of the two countries, I have the honour to inform you that I was in charge of its Government
propose the conclusion of the agreement between the Government of the Czech and Slovak Federal
Of the Republic and the Government of the Portuguese Republic under the following conditions:
1. Portuguese citizens, holders of a valid passport issued by the competent
the Portuguese authorities are deprived of their obligation to have entry visa on the territory of the
The Czech and Slovak Federal Republic for a period not exceeding 90 days,
in the case of transit, tourist or business trip.
2. The citizens of the Czech and Slovak Federal Republic, the holders of a valid
the Passport, issued by the authorities of the Czech and Slovak Federal Republic are the
deprived of their obligation to have entry visa on Portuguese territory for a period of
not exceeding 90 days, in the case of transit, tourist, or
a business trip.
3. The preceding provisions do not deprive citizens of any of the States
the obligation to respect the laws and regulations of the other State related to the
the entry, stay and exit of foreigners and cannot be applied to Portuguese
or the Czechoslovak nationals who want to settle permanently
or perform the work either on the Czechoslovak or
the Portuguese territory.
4. The competent authorities of each country reserve the right to refuse admission
or prohibit the stay to the citizens of another State, which they consider undesirable.
5. Any Contracting Party may wholly or partially cancel this agreement from
grounds of public policy, national security or health. This cancellation
must be immediately notified through diplomatic channels to the other Contracting Party.
6. each Contracting Party reserves the right to terminate this agreement after
a warning 90 days in advance.
7. This agreement shall enter into force on the fifteenth day from the date when the two
the Parties shall be notified through diplomatic channels, that they met the necessary constitutional
the formalities.
If the above provisions are acceptable to your Government, I have the honour
to propose that this letter and the response to it have created Arrangements of
the abolition of visa requirement between the Government of the Czech and Slovak Federal
Of the Republic and the Government of the Portuguese Republic.

I have the honour to acknowledge receipt of your letter of 29 May. in August 1991, in which I
you provide the following:
"Excellence, referring to a recent meeting of representatives of the Governments of the Czech Republic and
Slovak Federal Republic and the Portuguese Republic with a view to
to facilitate the travel of citizens of both countries, I have the honour to inform you that I was
responsible for its Government to propose the conclusion of the agreement between the Government of the Czech and

agrees with the content of the above note, which, together with this notice
will constitute the Agreement on abolition of visa requirements between our two
Governments.
