Through which honors the memory of President Alberto Lleras Camargo surrenders.
CONGRESS OF COLOMBIA DECREES
ARTICLE 1o. The Republic of Colombia honors and exalts the memory of President Alberto Lleras Camargo, illustrious statesman nationality builder, peacemaker, symbol of civic coexistence and great fighter for the strengthening of democracy in America and the world.
Throughout his brilliant career of service to the country, it was established in first-order political figure, serving as House Representative, President thereof, Minister of State and President of the Republic twice.
His leadership skills enabled him to lead the country back on the path of democracy, after fighting with height and firmness against the attacks of the dictatorship, laying the foundations of a new political regime -The National Front that made possible the coexistence peaceful communities and the reunion of the nation with its core values.
Was Alberto Lleras, standard bearer of continental integration, and as the first Secretary General of the Organization of American States, OAS, spoke with intelligence and fortune in solving regional conflicts, even in the global sphere, becoming the statesman the highlight of the day.
As a journalist he excelled in defense of his convictions, harmonizing with the highest interests of nationality. He was Director of the daily "La Tarde", "The Liberal", "The Independent" and founder of the magazine "Semana" in what constitutes an unparalleled contribution to Colombian journalism.
As a man, he thought, he worked and fought for the noblest values, giving permanent example of perseverance, honesty, morality, personal social decency.
. As perennial his memory tribute, the nation built in the city of Bogotá, DC, a statue of Alberto Lleras Camargo, a monument to his memory, which will be entrusted to a Colombian sculptor based on merit which will open the Colombian Institute of Culture, for this purpose.
ARTICLE 3. The National Library will forward the name "National Library Alberto Lleras Camargo," and in front of its headquarters, the Nation set up a bust Republican distinguished which will be entrusted to a Colombian sculptor, based on merit competition that will open the Colombian Institute of Culture for this purpose.
ARTICLE 4. The National Government, through the Colombian Institute of Culture, responsible historians of recognized suitability preparing a biography where ideas, achievements and trajectory of Alberto Lleras Camargo is collected. The text of this biography will be published intended for free distribution in educational establishments throughout the country.
The 5th ITEM. The National Government, through the Colombian Institute of Culture, and with the collaboration of the National Libraries, Luis Angel Arango and the Congress, edited the complete works of Alberto Lleras Camargo, his journalistic writings and major interventions outside, in different national forums and in the Congress.
ARTICLE 6o. The Ministry of Communications will issue a stamp series of different denominations, with the effigy of Alberto Lleras Camargo, the years of his birth and death, and a legend that will express: "Command of Democracy".
ARTICLE 7. The government appropriated the necessary to carry out the works and projects covered by this Act items.
Article 8. This Act governs from the date of its enactment.
