LEI N ° 10,639, DE January 9, 2003.

Amend the Law No. 9,394 of December 20, 1996 laying down the guidelines and bases of national education, to include in the official curriculum of the Education Network the obligation of the thematic "History and Culture Afro-Brazilian Culture", and gives other arrangements.

THE PRESIDENT OF THE REPUBLIC I do know that the National Congress decrees and I sanction the following Law:

Art. 1 ° Law No. 9,394 of December 20, 1996, passes the following additional force of the following arts. 26-A, 79-A and 79-B:

" Art. 26-A. In elementary and middle school, official and private educational establishments, the teaching on African-Brazilian History and Culture becomes compulsory.

§ 1 The programmatic content referred to in the caput of this article will include the study of the History of Africa and the Africans, the struggle of black people in Brazil, the Brazilian black culture and the black in the formation of the national society, rescuing the contribution of black people in the social, economic and political areas pertinent to the History of

§ 2 ° The contents concerning African-Brazilian History and Culture will be taught within the framework of the entire school curriculum, in particular in the areas of Artistic Education and Literature and Brazilian History.

Art. 2 ° This Act shall enter into force on the date of its publication.
