According to a further communication from the Secretary-General of the Council of Europe, the European Union 1 On 30 November 2009 the following statement was made:

The Treaty of Lisbon, amending the Treaty on European Union and the Treaty establishing the European Community, will enter into force on 1 December 2009.

As a result, from that date on, the European Union will replace the European Community and follow it up (Art. Article 1 (3) of the Treaty on European Union, as set out in the amendments by the Treaty of Lisbon).
