86. Multilateral special agreement RID 9/2011according to section 1.5.1 RID on the transport of UN 1402, CALCIUM carbide of class 4.3 Pacing Group I in tanks

By way of derogation from the provisions of Chapter 3.2, Table A, column (12) RID, UN 1402, CALCIUM CARBIDE of class 4.3 packaging group I may be transported in tanks, provided that the following conditions are met:

a)

This substance may only be transported in tanks of the tank coding S2, 65AN (+).

b)

In addition to the particulars referred to in paragraph 6.8.2.5.2, the tanks shall be endorsed with the

" NOT OPEN DURING TRANSPORT. FORMS FLAMMABLE GASES IN CONTACT WITH WATER. "

be provided.

The markings must be written in an official language of the country of admission and, if that language is not German, English, French or Italian, also in German, English, French or Italian, if not. Agreements between the Member States which are in contact with the transport sector prescribe something else.

c)

During transport, these substances must be covered by an inert gas, the pressure of which must be at least 50 kPa (0.5 bar) (excess pressure).

d)

The tank hierarchy according to paragraph 4.3.4.1.2 RID is not applicable.

e)

The tanks may only be filled with filling material up to 90% of their capacity.

f)

Unpurified empty tanks containing these substances must be filled with an inert gas at a pressure of at least 50 kPa (0.5 bar) (overpressure) in the case of the transport task.

In addition to the required information, the sender must note in the transport document:

"Carriage agreed in accordance with section 1.5.1 RID (RID 9/2011)."

This Agreement shall apply until 31 December 2012 in respect of transport operations in the territories of the RID States Parties which have signed this Agreement. If, before that date, it is revoked by one of the Signatories, it shall be valid until that date only in respect of transport operations in the territories of those RID States Parties which have signed this Agreement and have not withdrawn it.

The agreement was signed by Austria on 19 May 2012.
