SECRETARIAT OF CULTURA Law 26.531 Consider the regime of protection and promotion of the musical instrument called bandoneon. Sanctioned: October 28, 2009 Cast: November 18, 2009.

The Senate and Chamber of Deputies of the Argentine Nation assembled in Congress, etc. sanction with force of Law:

ARTICLE 1 . Object. Believe the regime of protection and promotion of the musical instrument called bandoneon, in its diatonic type. ARTICLE 2 . Special safeguard. The national executive branch shall ensure the protection and preservation of bandoneons who have belonged to recognized interpreters or whose seniority is over 40 years old.

The departure from the national territory of the musical instruments mentioned in the preceding paragraph is expressly prohibited, except for those who are temporarily moved abroad for executions of national music.

Article 3 . Implementing Authority. The authority for the implementation of this law is the Ministry of Culture of the Nation, under the national executive branch, with the National Academy of Tango as a consultative body. ARTICLE 4 . Tuteladas Activities. The implementing authority shall promote activities that are directly related to the instrument under this Act and which are intended to:

(a) The encouragement to its local construction, conservation and restoration of specimens of special significance or cultural or symbolic value;

(b) The apprenticeship of its execution and diffusion of its repertoire linked to the musical acquis of our country;

(c) The preservation of documents, objects, places and monuments that have a significant bearing on their expressions and their most outstanding interpreters;

(d) The literary, musical or audiovisual edition of related artistic or scientific works;

(e) The realization of musical festivals or shows linked to its repertoire;

(f) The dissemination of the work of its interpreters;

(g) The study or artistic, scientific or historical research of the bandoneon or its interpreters.

ARTICLE 5o . Promotion. The Secretariat of Culture of the Nation will promote policies to promote bandoneon in order to promote its dissemination abroad.

ARTICLE 6 . Registration. The National Register of the Bandoneon, within the scope of the Ministry of Culture of the Nation, shall be responsible for the registration procedures of the bandoneons existing in the country, their antiquity and the data of their owners, as determined by the regulations. ARTICLE 7 Purchasing priority. The national state, the provincial states, the Autonomous City of Buenos Aires and the municipalities will have priority to buy, when the owners of bandoneons who have belonged to recognized interpreters or whose seniority exceeds 40 years decide to sell one or more bandoneons.

Owners shall notify the enforcement authority of their intention to sell the instrument(s) subject to this law, in the terms established by the regulation.

ARTICLE 8 . Regulation. This law shall be regulated by the national executive branch, within the NOVENTA (90) days of its publication. Article 9 Contact the Executive.
