INDIGENOUS MATTERS Law 25.607 Please note that a campaign to disseminate the rights of indigenous peoples is being carried out. Sanctioned: June 12, 2002. Promulgated: July 4, 2002.

The Senate and Chamber of Deputies of the Argentine Nation assembled in Congress, etc. sanction with force of Law:

ARTICLE 1 The implementation of a campaign to disseminate the rights of indigenous peoples contained in article 75, paragraph 17, of the National Constitution. ARTICLE 2 The planning, coordination, implementation and evaluation of the dissemination campaign established by this Act shall be carried out by the implementing authority with the cooperation of the National Institute for Indigenous Affairs and the active and direct participation of the communities of the indigenous peoples involved, which shall be convened in accordance with their forms of organization. Article 3 In order to comply with the purposes of this Act, the National Institute for Indigenous Affairs will provide the enforcement authority with the translation of the content of article 75, paragraph 17, of the National Constitution into the different languages of the peoples who today live in the Argentine Republic, in oral and written form.

The implementing authority will place special emphasis on the fact that the above-mentioned translations and disseminations do not distort the content of the above-mentioned constitutional article, which is because of various languages, cultures and traditions.

ARTICLE 4 The outreach campaign will be carried out through national radios and television channels, graphic media and educational fields. At the same time, the collaboration of intermediate communities, such as rural communities, non-profit civil associations and neighbourhood associations throughout the country will be requested to provide them with the necessary elements to carry out this task.

Furthermore, the provinces that adhere to the regime of this law may determine, in addition to the proposed ones, other channels of dissemination, carrying out a more intensive campaign in those regions with a high presence of indigenous people.

ARTICLE 5o The implementation authority in coordination with the National Institute for Indigenous Affairs and the indigenous communities involved, will programme and execute training courses for indigenous communities in order to make them aware of their rights and obligations while respecting the modalities of transmitting information consistent with their traditions and cultures. ARTICLE 6 The outreach campaign will take place every two years, unless the implementation authority considers it appropriate to carry out it in shorter periods. ARTICLE 7 The Under-Secretary for Human and Social Rights of the Ministry of the Interior shall be the authority for the implementation of this Act.

ARTICLE 8 This law shall be regulated by the Executive Branch within ninety days of its promulgation.

Article 9 Contact the Executive.

IN THE SESSION OF THE ARGENTINE CONGRESS, IN GOOD AIRES, 12 JUN 2002.
