PUBLICA HEALTH Law 25,630 Establish rules for the prevention of anemias and neural tube malformations. Control agency. Sanctioned: July 31, 2002. Promulgated: August 22, 2002.

The Senate and Chamber of Deputies of the Argentine Nation assembled in Congress, etc. sanction with force of Law:

ARTICLE 1 This law is intended to prevent neural tube anemias and malformations, such as anencephaly and spina bifida. ARTICLE 2 The Ministry of Health, through the National Food Institute, will be the monitoring agency for compliance with this law. Article 3 Wheat flour for consumption sold in the domestic market will be supplied with iron, folic acid, thiamine, riboflavin and niacin in the following proportions:

ARTICLE 4 Except as provided in the previous article, wheat flour for the production of dietary products that require a greater or lesser proportion of these nutrients.

ARTICLE 5o When the products produced with seasoned wheat flour are sold in containers, they must bear legends indicating the proportions of the nutrients referred to in this law. ARTICLE 6 . Violation of this law and its regulation shall be liable to the penalties provided for in article 9 of Law 18,284 and its amendments. ARTICLE 7 For the implementation of this Act, the Ministry of Health shall exercise its functions on its own or in collaboration with other national, provincial and municipal agencies, non-governmental organizations and international institutions. ARTICLE 8 The Ministry of Health, within the Federal Health Council (COFESA), will coordinate actions with the health authorities of the provinces and the city of Buenos Aires, to ensure the implementation of this law. Article 9 The Ministry of Health shall disseminate information among the population and, in particular, among health workers on the scope of this Act. ARTICLE 10. The Executive Power shall regulate the present within sixty (60) days of its promulgation, introducing, in the same time period, the amendments to the Argentine Food Code necessary for the enforcement of the law.
