INDIGENOUS COMUNITIES Law 25.517 Please note that they must be made available to indigenous peoples and/or communities of belonging that claim it, the mortal remains of aborigines, which form part of museums and/or public or private collections.

Sanctioned: November 21, 2001.

Promulga de Hecho: December 14, 2001.

The Senate and Chamber of Deputies of the Argentine Nation assembled in Congress, etc. sanction with force of Law:

ARTICLE 1 The mortal remains of aborigines, whatever their ethnic characteristics, which are part of museums and/or public or private collections, should be made available to indigenous peoples and/or communities of belonging that claim it. ARTICLE 2 The remains mentioned in the previous article and which are not claimed by their communities may remain at the disposal of the institutions that house them, having to be treated with the respect and consideration given to all human bodies.

Article 3 Any scientific undertaking aimed at Aboriginal communities, including their historical and cultural heritage, should be given the express consent of the communities concerned.

ARTICLE 4 The provinces and the Government of the Autonomous City of Buenos Aires are invited to accede to this law.

IN THE SESSION OF THE ARGENTINE CONGRESS, IN GOOD AIRES, TO THE TWENTY DAYS OF THE MONTH YEAR DOS MIL UNO.
