The Free Zone (Southampton) Designation (Variation of Area) Order 1996

The Treasury, in exercise of the powers conferred on them by section 100A(4)(a)(ii) of the Customs and Excise Management Act 1979(1) and of all other powers enabling them in that behalf, and with the agreement of Southampton Free Trade Zone Limited(2), hereby make the following Order:
1. This Order may be cited as the Free Zone (Southampton) Designation (Variation of Area) Order 1996 and shall come into force on 21 October 1996.
2. The area designated a free zone by the Free Zone (Southampton) Designation Order 1991(3) and varied by the Free Zone (Southampton) Designation (Variation) Order 1994(4) shall be further varied by substituting the area referred to in article 2 of the Free Zone (Southampton) Designation (Variation) Order 1994 for an area consisting of 3.2436 hectares in the City of Southampton, Hampshire shown enclosed by a blue line on a map (being of a scale of 1:2500), marked “Map referred to in article 2 of the Free Zone (Southampton) Designation (Variation of Area) Order 1996” signed by a Collector of Customs and Excise and dated 19th March 1996.
3. The map referred to in article 2 above shall be kept by the Commissioners at their Headquarters, New King’s Beam House, 22 Upper Ground, London SE1 9PJ (and a copy thereof at the registered office of Southampton Free Trade Zone Limited) in substitution for the map referred to in article 2 of the Free Zone (Southampton) Designation (Variation) Order 1994.

Explanatory Note
(This note is not part of the Order)
This Order varies the area designated a free zone by the Free Zone (Southampton) Designation Order 1991, and subsequently amended by the Free Zone (Southampton) Designation (Variation) Order 1994 by increasing it from 2.2254 hectares to 3.2436 hectares and relocating it some 4 kilometres to the west.
The free zone will be re-located on land known as the Western Dock Extension, adjacent to the Prince Charles Container Terminal on the north bank of Southampton Water. Access to the free zone will be through dock gate 20.
