Coming into force in accordance with regulation 1(1)
The Secretary of State, in exercise of the powers conferred on him by section 17(2) and (3) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984(1), and of all other powers enabling him in that behalf, having consulted such representative organisations as he thought fit in accordance with section 134(2) of that Act, hereby makes the following Regulations:

Citation, commencement and interpretation

1.—(1) These Regulations may be cited as The Ayr Road Route (M77) (Speed Limit) Regulations 1996 and shall come into force on the date declared by the Secretary of State as traffic authority(2) by notice in accordance with the Special Roads (Notice of Opening) (Scotland) Regulations 1964(3) to be the date on which the special road specified in paragraph (2) below is open for use as a special road.

(2) The special road referred to in paragraph (1) above is the special road, together with connecting roads, authorised to be provided by–

(a)The Ayr Road Route (M77) (City of Glasgow District Boundary - Malletsheugh) Special Road and Connecting Road Scheme 1992(4);

(b)The Strathclyde Regional Council (Ayr Road Route) (A77) (Dumbreck to City of Glasgow District Boundary) Special Road Scheme 1987; and

(c)The Strathclyde Regional Council (Ayr Road Route) (A77) (Dumbreck to City of Glasgow District Boundary) (Connecting Roads) Special Roads Scheme 1987.

(3) In these Regulations “the special road” means the special road specified in paragraph 1(2) above.

Speed Limit

2.  No person shall drive any vehicle at a speed exceeding–

(a)60mph on those lengths of the special road described in Schedule 1 to these Regulations;

(b)50mph on those lengths of the special road described in Schedule 2 to these Regulations;

(c)40mph on those lengths of the special road described in Schedule 3 to these Regulations; or

(d)30mph on those lengths of the special road described in Schedule 4 to these Regulations.

Regulation 2(a)

SCHEDULE 160 MPH SPEED LIMIT

1.  That length of the special road from the point where it crosses the City of Glasgow Boundary in a generally southerly direction for a distance of 4.15 kilometres or thereby.

2.  That length of the special road comprising the connecting road which extends from its junction with the main southbound carriageway of the special road to a point 134 metres north of the extended north kerbline of the eastbound section of Crookfur Road, a distance of 317 metres or thereby.

3.  That length of the special road comprising the connecting road which extends from a point 31 metres north of the extended north kerbline of the eastbound section of Crookfur Road to its junction with the main northbound carriageway of the special road, a distance of 392 metres or thereby.

Regulation 2(b)

SCHEDULE 250 MPH SPEED LIMIT

1.  That length of the special road from a point where it crosses the City of Glasgow Boundary in a generally northerly direction for a distance of 6.66 kilometres or thereby.

2.  That length of the special road comprising the connecting road which extends from its junction with the main southbound carriageway of the special road to a point 70 metres east of the extended east kerbline of Dumbreck Road, measured along the most northerly kerbline of the connecting road, a distance of 440 metres or thereby.

3.  That length of the special road comprising the connecting road which extends from a point 170 metres east of the extended east kerbline of Dumbreck Road, measured along the most southerly kerbline of the connecting road, to its junction with the main southbound carriageway of the special road, a distance of 157 metres or thereby.

4.  That length of the special road comprising the connecting road from a point 50 metres east of the extended east kerbline of Dumbreck Road, measured along the most southerly kerbline of the connecting road, to its junction with the main northbound carriageway of the special road, a distance of 255 metres or thereby.

5.  That length of the special road comprising the connecting road which extends from its junction with the main northbound carriageway of the special road to a point 95 metres west of the extended west kerbline of Dumbreck Road, measured along the most southerly kerbline of the connecting road, a distance of 312 metres or thereby.

6.  That length of the special road comprising the connecting road which extends from its junction with the main southbound carriageway of the special road to a point 71 metres north of the extended north kerbline of Barrhead Road, measured along the most westerly kerbline of the connecting road, a distance of 340 metres or thereby.

7.  That length of the special road comprising the connecting road which extends from a point 117 metres north of the extended north kerbline of Barrhead Road, measured along the most easterly kerbline of the connecting road, to its junction with the main southbound carriageway of the special road, a distance of 183 metres or thereby.

8.  That length of the special road comprising the connecting road from a point 128 metres north of the extended north kerbline of Barrhead Road, measured along the most westerly kerbline of the connecting road, to its junction with the main northbound carriageway of the special road, a distance of 263 metres or thereby.

9.  That length of the special road comprising the connecting road which extends from its junction with the main northbound carriageway of the special road to a point 90 metres south of the extended south kerbline of Barrhead Road, measured along the most easterly kerbline of the connecting road, a distance of 250 metres or thereby.

10.  That length of the special road comprising the connecting road which extends from its junction with the main southbound carriageway of the special road to a point 92 metres north of the extended north kerbline of Nitshill Road, measured along the most westerly kerbline of the connecting road, a distance of 348 metres or thereby.

11.  That length of the special road comprising the connecting road which extends from a point 77 metres south of the extended south kerbline of Nitshill Road, measured along the most westerly kerbline of the connecting road, to its junction with the main southbound carriageway of the special road, a distance of 253 metres or thereby.

12.  That length of the special road comprising the connecting road from a point 174 metres south of the extended south kerbline of Nitshill Road, measured along the inside radius kerbline of the connecting road, to its junction with the main northbound carriageway of the special road, a distance of 320 metres or thereby.

13.  That length of the special road comprising the connecting road which extends from its junction with the main northbound carriageway of the special road to a point 67 metres east of the junction with the signalised roundabout within the Darnley Mains development, a distance of 415 metres or thereby.

Regulation 2(c)

SCHEDULE 340 MPH SPEED LIMIT

1.  That length of the special road comprising the connecting road which extends from a point 71 metres north of the extended north kerbline of Barrhead Road, measured along the most westerly kerbline of the connecting road, to the extended north kerbline of Barrhead Road.

2.  That length of the special road comprising the connecting road which extends from its junction with Barrhead Road to a point 117 metres north of the extended north kerbline of Barrhead Road, measured along the most easterly kerbline of the connecting road.

3.  That length of the special road comprising the connecting road which extends from its junction with Barrhead Road to a point 128 metres north of the extended north kerbline of Barrhead Road, measured along the most westerly kerbline of the connecting road.

4.  That length of the special road comprising the connecting road which extends from a point 90 metres south of the extended south kerbline of Barrhead Road, measured along the most easterly kerbline of the connecting road, to its junction with Barrhead Road.

5.  That length of the special road comprising the connecting road which extends from a point 92 metres north of the extended north kerbline of Nitshill Road, measured along the most westerly kerbline of the connecting road, to the extended north kerbline of Nitshill Road.

6.  That length of the special road comprising the connecting road which extends from its junction with Nitshill Road to a point 77 metres south of the extended south kerbline of Nitshill Road, measured along the most westerly kerbline of the connecting road.

7.  That length of the special road comprising the connecting road which extends from its junction with Nitshill Road to a point 174 metres south of the extended south kerbline of Nitshill Road, measured along the inside radius kerbline of the connecting road.

8.  That length of the special road comprising the connecting road which extends from its junction with the signalised roundabout within the Darnley Mains development to a point 174 metres south of the extended south kerbline of Nitshill Road, measured along the inside radius kerbline of the connecting road, a distance of 130 metres or thereby.

9.  That length of the special road comprising the connecting road which extends from a point 134 metres north of the extended north kerbline of the eastbound section of Crookfur Road to the extended north kerbline of the eastbound section of Crookfur Road.

10.  That length of the special road comprising the connecting road which extends from the extended north kerbline of the eastbound section of Crookfur Road to a point 31 metres north of the extended north kerbline of the eastbound section of Crookfur Road.

Regulation 2(d)

SCHEDULE 430 MPH SPEED LIMIT

1.  That length of the special road comprising the connecting road which extends from a point 70 metres east of the extended east kerbline of Dumbreck Road, measured along the most northerly kerbline of the connecting road, to the extended east kerbline of Dumbreck Road.

2.  That length of the special road comprising the connecting road which extends from its junction with Dumbreck Road to a point 170 metres east of the extended east kerbline of Dumbreck Road, measured along the most southerly kerbline of the connecting road.

3.  That length of the special road comprising the connecting road which extends from its junction with Dumbreck Road to a point 50 metres east of the extended east kerbline of Dumbreck Road, measured along the most southerly kerbline of the connecting road.

4.  That length of the special road comprising the connecting road which extends from a point 95 metres west of the extended west kerbline of Dumbreck Road, measured along the most southerly kerbline of the connecting road, to its junction with Dumbreck Road.

5.  That length of the special road comprising the connecting road which extends from a point 67 metres east of the junction with the signalised roundabout within the Darnley Mains development to its junction with the signalised roundabout within the Darnley Mains development.
