Whereas the Public Lending Right Scheme 1982(1) (“the Scheme”) was brought into force on 14th June 1982;
Whereas the Scheme has previously been varied(2);
And whereas the Secretary of State, after consultation with the representatives of authors and library authorities and with others who appear likely to be affected, has further varied the Scheme;

Now, therefore, the Secretary of State, in exercise of the powers conferred by section 3(7) of the Public Lending Right Act 1979(3) and now vested in him(4), hereby makes the following Order:—

1.  This Order may be cited as the Public Lending Right Scheme 1982 (Commencement of Variations) Order 1998.

2.  The variation in the Public Lending Right Scheme 1982 which was made on 13th May 1998 by the Secretary of State and is set out in the Appendix to this Order shall come into force on 6th June 1998.

Explanatory Note

(This note is not part of the Order)
This Order brings into force a variation to the Public Lending Right Scheme 1982 made by the Secretary of State on 13th May 1998.
The variation is set out in the Appendix. The effect of the variation is that Schedule 2 to the Scheme which groups service points, is amended in consequence of local government reorganisation, and set out in consolidated form.


“APPENDIXVARIATIONS IN THE PUBLIC LENDING RIGHT SCHEME 1982 MADE BY THE SECRETARY OF STATE ON 13th May 1998

1.  Schedule 2 of the Scheme shall be varied by substituting for GROUPS A to the end the following:
