INDUSTRIAL TRAINING
The Industrial Training (Construction Board) (Amendment) Order (Northern Ireland) 1997

The Department of Economic Development, in exercise of the powers conferred on it by Article 14(1) and (6) of the Industrial Training (Northern Ireland) Order 1984(1) and of every other power enabling it in that behalf, after consulting in accordance with Article 14(2) of that Order with those organisations appearing to it to be representative of a substantial number of employers and employees engaged in the Construction Industry, hereby makes the following Order:
Citation, commencement and interpretation
1.—(1) This Order may be cited as the Industrial Training (Construction Board) (Amendment) Order (Northern Ireland) 1997 and shall come into operation on 28th February 1997.
(2) “The principal Order” means the Industrial Training (Construction Board) Order (Northern Ireland) 1964(2).
Amendments
2. Schedule 1 of the principal Order shall be amended as follows:
(a)in paragraph 1(a)(iii) “electric line or any structure designed for its support” shall be deleted;
(b)in paragraph 1(a)(vi) “electricity” shall be deleted;
(c)in paragraph 3(c) “electric line means a wire or wires, conductor or other means used for the purpose of conveying, transmitting or distributing electricity, or any apparatus connected therewith”, shall be deleted; and
(d)after paragraph 2(g) there shall be inserted “2(h) the activities of any establishment engaged wholly or mainly in electrical construction, installation, maintenance or repair work”.

Explanatory Note
(This note is not part of the Order.)
This Order amends Schedule 1 to the Industrial Training (Construction Board) Order (Northern Ireland) 1964 (the 1964 Order) by deleting references to electrical work and providing that those establishments involved mainly in electrical installation, maintenance and repair work shall not be included in the activities of the construction industry for the purposes of the 1964 Order.
