Gaming and Amusements with Prizes (Variation of Monetary Limits) Order (Northern Ireland) 1996

The Department of Health and Social Services, in exercise of the powers conferred on it by Articles 75(2), 76(5), 77(4), 108(16) and 154(7) of the Betting, Gaming, Lotteries and Amusements (Northern Ireland) Order 1985(1) and of all other powers enabling it in that behalf, hereby makes the following Order:

Citation, commencement and interpretation

1.—(1) This Order may be cited as the Gaming and Amusements with Prizes (Variation of Monetary Limits) Order (Northern Ireland) 1996 and shall come into operation on 27th January 1997.

(2) In this Order “the Order” means the Betting, Gaming, Lotteries and Amusements (Northern Ireland) Order 1985.

Maximum amount of weekly winnings in games of bingo played simultaneously on different bingo club premises

2.  For the purposes of Article 75(2)(ii) of the Order instead of £10,000(2) the amount £25,000 is hereby specified.

Maximum amount by which weekly winnings on bingo club premises may exceed the stakes hazarded

3.  For the purposes of Article 76(5) of the Order instead of £2,500(3) the amount £5,000 is hereby specified.

Conditions governing gaming for prizes on bingo club premises

4.  In Article 77(1)(b) and (e) of the Order for “£27·50”(4) there shall be substituted “£30”.

Maximum entitlement to prizes in gaming by means of gaming machines on licensed premises within the meaning of the Licensing (Northern Ireland) Order 1990

5.  In Article 108(8) and (9) of the Order for “£8”(5) there shall be substituted “£10”.

Conditions governing amusements with prizes at certain commercial entertainments

6.  In Article 154(4)(b) of the Order for “£25”(6) there shall be substituted “£30”.

Revocations

7.  Articles 3, 4, 5 and 10 of the Betting, Gaming, Lotteries and Amusements with Prizes (Variation of Fees and Monetary Limits) Order (Northern Ireland) 1995(7) are hereby revoked.

Explanatory Note

(This note is not part of the Order.)

This Order—
(a)increases the maximum permitted aggregate amount of winnings in respect of games of bingo played in 1 week simultaneously on different bingo club premises from £10,000 to £25,000;
(b)increases the maximum amount by which weekly winnings on bingo club premises may exceed the stakes hazarded from £2,500 to £5,000;
(c)increases, in any 1 determination of winners in gaming for prizes on bingo club premises, the maximum permitted aggregate amount taken by way of the sale of chances from £27·50 to £30 and the maximum permitted aggregate amount or value of prizes from £27·50 to £30;
(d)increases the maximum entitlement to prizes in gaming by means of a gaming machine installed on licensed premises (within the meaning of the Licensing (Northern Ireland) Order 1990) from £8 to £10;
(e)increases the maximum permitted aggregate amount taken by way of the sale of chances in any 1 determination of winners in amusements with prizes at certain commercial entertainments from £25 to £30.
