Explanatory Note

(This note is not part of the Order)
This Order amends the Combined Probation Areas Order 1986 (S.I. 1986/1713) so as to reduce the number of justices on the Committee for the West Sussex Area. The justice representation for each of the petty sessional divisions of Arundel, Chichester and District, Crawley and Mid-Sussex is reduced by one. The representation for those petty sessional division was formerly two, three, three and three respectively. As a result of the Lord Chancellor’s re-organisation of the West Sussex petty sessional divisions (also coming into effect on 1st April 1996), the division of Steyning ceases to exist. The petty sessional division of Worthing becomes that of Worthing and District, from which two justices will be appointed to serve on the committee. The justice representation for Worthing was formerly three. The total justice representation on the West Sussex committee is accordingly reduced from eighteen to eleven.
