CHAPTER 40
GOVERNOR-GENERAL’S PERSONAL STAFF An Act further and better to prescribe the offices to
constitute the personal staff of the Governor-General and for purposes incidental thereto.
[Commencement 22nd December, 1969] 1. This Act may be cited as the Governor-General’s
Personal Staff Act. 2. For the purposes of Article 35 of the Constitution,
the offices to constitute the personal staff of the Governor- General shall be those offices specified in the Schedule of this Act. Schedule.
3. Subject to the provisions of this Act, the salaries and allowances of all persons holding any of the offices specified in the Schedule to this Act shall be paid out of such sums as Parliament may from time to time appro- priate for that purpose.
4. (1) Subject to the adaptations and modifications set out in this section, sections 5 to 9 inclusive, sections 14 to 16 inclusive and sections 18 and 19 of the Public Service Act, shall apply to all persons holding any of the offices specified in Part I of the Schedule as if such persons were public officers within the meaning of the Constitution.
(2) The Governor-General acting in his discretion shall exercise in relation to any person holding any such office all the powers vested by the sections of the Public Service Act, specified in subsection (1) of this section, in the Governor-General or in the Governor-General acting upon the recommendation of the appropriate Commission;
Provided that in the case of any public officer who has been selected for the appointment to an office on the personal staff of the Governor-General from a list submitted by the Public Service Commission, the exercise of those powers by the Governor-General acting in his discretion shall apply only to the tenure by such officer of his office on the personal staff of the Governor-General.
