| AN ACT TO AMEND THE STAMP DUTY ACT, NO. 43 of 1982 | | |

| BE it enacted by the Parliament of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka as follows :- | |

Short title.
| 1. This Act may be cited as the Stamp Duty (Amendment) Act, No. 38 of 1996. | Amendment of section 5 of Act, No. 43 of 1982.
| 2. Section 5 of the Stamp Duty Act, No. 43 of 1982 (hereinafter referred to as the "principal enactment"), as last amended by Act No. 63 of 1993, is hereby further amended as follows ;- | (a) in paragraph (20a) of that section, by the substitution for the words "share in the Credit Information Bureau", of the words "share, in any quoted public company or the Credit Information Bureau" ; and | | (b) in paragraph (20b) of that section, by the substitution for the words "share in the Credit Information Bureau", of the words "share, in any quoted public company or the Credit Information Bureau". | | Retrospective effect.
| 3. The amendment made to section 5 of the principal enactment, by section 2 of this Act shall be deemed for all purposes to have come into force on November 7,1996. | Sinhala text to prevail in case of inconsistency.
| 4. In the event of any inconsistency between the Sinhala and Tamil texts of this Act, the Sinhala text shall prevail. | |
