ACT To amend the Public Holidays Act, 1994, so as to empower the President to declare any day to be a public holiday; and to provide for matters conne~ted therewith.

BE IT ENACTED by the Parliament of the Republic of South Africa, as follows:- Amendment of section 1 of Act 36 of1994

1. Section 1 of the Public Holidays Act, 1994 (hereinafter referred to as the principal Act), is hereby amended by the substitution in subsection (1) for the 5 definition of "public holidays" of the following definition:
" 'public holidays' means the days mentioned in Schedule 1 and any other day declared to be a public holiday under section 2A;".
Insertion of section 2A in Act 36 of 1994
2. The following section is hereby inserted in the principal Act after section 2: 10
Short title
"Declaration of public holidays
2A. The President may by proclamation in the Gazette declare any day to be a public holiday throughout the Republic or any part thereof.". · ·
3. This Act shall be called the Public Holidays Amendment Act, 1995.
