The design of the coin depicts the winds of change that have shaped the Singapore economy in the last 20 years since the launch of the Productivity Movement in 1981.

Twenty years ago, the Movement emphasised Quality to support Singapore’s investment-driven phase of development. Today, Innovation, together with Quality is emphasised to support the innovation-driven phase of development. This progression is symbolized by the bold and vibrant strokes rising from the base of the coin in a dynamic upward movement.

The year 1981 marks the first lap of the Movement. The progress made since then is accentuated by the 2 sets of arrowheads that link the words “Quality” and “Innovation”. The year 2001 signals the start of the new lap for the Movement.

The difference made by the Movement in the last 20 years is strongly underlined by the words “PRODUCTIVITY MOVEMENT” bordering the coin. The 4 sparks radiating from these words represent the 4 major outcomes that are evident today:

A world-class workforce

A world-class industry
