RESOLUTION

CONGRATULATING ELECTED PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA DONALD TRUMP

The Seimas of the Republic of Lithuania,

noting that the people of the United States of America, in a democratic vote approved by the Electoral College, have elected Donald Trump the 45^th President of the United States of America;

recognising the role of the United States of America and the personal role of the country's President in ensuring security and stability in Europe and throughout the world;

appreciating cordial, long-standing and historical ties between the people of Lithuania and the United States of America and commemorating the 25^th anniversary of restoration of diplomatic relations;

expressing gratitude to the United States of America and the country’s Presidents for the continued and determined policy of non-recognition of the Baltic States’ occupation pursued by the United States of America;

recalling the firm assurance expressed by President of the United States George W. Bush during his visit to Vilnius on 22 November 2002 that anyone who would choose Lithuania as an enemy would also make an enemy of the USA;

welcoming regular meetings of Presidents of the United States of America and the Republic of Lithuania;

committing to strengthen strategic cooperation with the United States of America, to increase the country’s defence funding, so that at least 2 percent of the country’s GDP would be spent by 2018, while ensuring further increase of funding,

sincerely congratulates elected President of the United States of America Donald Trump and

wishes him every success in holding this position of responsibility and implementing international and domestic policy commitments.
