AN ACT
to amend the Law relating to the Enforceability of certain contracts.
1 Enforceability of certain contracts

(i) No action shall be brought whereby to charge the defendant upon
any special promise to answer for the debt, default or miscarriage
of another person; or upon any contract for the sale or other
disposition of land or any interest in land; unless the agreement
upon which such action is brought, or some memorandum or note
thereof, is in writing, and signed by the party to be charged or by
some other person thereunto by him lawfully authorised.
(ii) Except as hereinbefore or by any other Act of Tynwald provided,
an action may be brought in respect of any contract, or agreement
whether or not the said agreement is in writing and whether or
not there is any memorandum or note thereof in writing.
(iii) This section applies to contracts whether made before or after the
commencement of this Act and does not affect the law relating to
part performance or sales by the Court.

3 Short title

This Act may be cited as the Law Reform (Enforcement of Contracts) Act, 1956.
4 Commencement

This Act shall come into operation when the Royal Assent thereto has been by
the Governor announced to Tynwald and a certificate thereof has been signed
by the Governor and the Speaker of the House of Keys.
