The Minister of Transport, in exercise of the powers conferred on
him by section 10(1)(a) and (b) of the Marine Board Act 1962, gives the
following Notice:

Citation
1 This Notice may be cited as the Marine Board (Control Over
Maritime Traffic) Notice (No. 5) 2003.

Round-the Island Boat Race
2 The Round-the-Island Boat Race (the "Race") will take place on
Sunday, 10 August 2003.

Closure of certain basin entrances
3 The sea passages specified below will be closed to normal marine
traffic during the Race between the times specified 

(a) the passage between the pylons at the entrance to Ferry
Reach 

(i) from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m.;

(ii) from 1:50 p.m. to 2:20 p.m.;

(iii) from 3:00 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.;

(b) the passage between Hinson's Island and the Paget
shoreline 

(i) from 12:15 p.m. to 12:45 p.m.;

(ii) from 2:10 p.m. to 2:40 p.m.;

(c) the passage between Five-Star Island and the
Southampton shoreline

(i) from 12:20 p.m. to 12:55 p.m.;

(ii) from 2:20 p.m. to 2:50 p.m.

Course for Race
4 The course for the Race will be as follows

from Ferry Reach to North Shore to Two Rock Passage to
Hamilton Harbour to Granaway Deep to Port Royal Bay to Great
Sound to Commissioner's Point to South Shore as far as St.
David's Head to St. Catherine's Point to North Shore and thence
to Ferry Reach.

Patrol of course
5 The passages and course referred to in this Notice will be
patrolled by the Marine Police and all mariners, pilots and boatmen are
required to exercise extreme caution when navigating in the proximity of
the course for the Race particularly in the vicinity of Ferry Reach, Two
Rock Passage and White's Island in Hamilton Harbour.

Speed limits not to apply
6 The speed limits fixed by the Marine Board (Declaration of Speed
Limits for Boats) (Mariners) Notice 2001 shall not apply to persons and
boats participating in the Race.

Postponement of Race
7 In the event that, due to inclement weather, the Race is
postponed until Sunday, 17 August 2003, the sea passages referred to in
this Notice will be closed, and the provisions of this Notice shall in all
respects apply to the Race held on that date.
