MAGISTRATES AMENDMENT ACT 1993

[Operative Date 1 January 1994]

WHEREAS it is expedient to increase the civil jurisdiction of
summary courts under the Magistrates Act 1948:

Be it enacted by The Queen's Most Excellent Majesty, by and
with the advice and consent of the Senate and the House of Assembly of
Bermuda, and by the authority of the same, as follows:

Short title
1 This Act may be cited as the Magistrates Amendment Act 1993.

Amends s 16 of 1948:25
2 Section 16 of the Magistrates Act 1948 ("the Act") is amended by
deleting "$5,000" and substituting "$10,000".

Amends s 18 of Act
3 Section 18 of the Act is amended by deleting "$5,000" wherever it
appears and substituting "$10,000".

Application
4 This Act does not apply in respect of an action commenced
before this Act's commencement.

Commencement
5 This Act comes into operation on 1st January 1994.
