I, ERIC ABETZ, Minister for Employment, make this Notice under subsection 5(6) of the Safety, Rehabilitation and Compensation Act 1988.

1              Name of Notice
                 This Notice is the Safety, Rehabilitation and Compensation (Definition of Employee – CSIRO Volunteers) Notice 2014.
2              Commencement
                This Notice commences on the day after it is registered on the Federal Register of Legislative Instruments.
3              Declaration
For the purposes of subsection 5(6) of the Safety, Rehabilitation and Compensation Act 1988, I declare that:
(a)    the class of persons specified in Column 1 of the Schedule, being persons who engage in the activities or perform acts specified in Column 2 of the Schedule, at the request or direction of the Commonwealth, shall be taken to be employed by the Commonwealth; and
(b)   the employment of such persons shall, for those purposes, be taken to be constituted by the performance by such persons of the acts or activities specified in Column 2 of the Schedule.

Persons who, under the control or direction of a Commonwealth officer assist, without receiving remuneration (other than payment of expenses incurred) the Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation (CSIRO) at:
the Visitor Centre (Canberra Space Centre) at the Canberra Deep Space Communication Complex Visitor Centres within the Australia Telescope National Facility the CSIRO Discovery Centre the Australian National Herbarium the Australian National Insect Collection the Australian National Wildlife Collection the Australian National Fish Collection the Australian Tree Seed Centre the National Soil Archive
Acts performed in connection with the rendering of assistance.
