Approval — A380 and B737-800 aircraft GLS approach procedures (Qantas)
1          Revocation
                 Instrument CASA 156/12 is revoked.
2          Application
                 This instrument applies to Qantas Airways Ltd (the operator), Aviation Reference Number 216147, in the use of the certified Honeywell GBAS SLS‑4000 “SmartPath” facility installed by Airservices Australia at Kingsford Smith International Airport, Sydney (the Facility) by flight crew of the operator’s A380 and B737-800 aircraft conducting a GLS approach.
3          Definitions
                 In this instrument:
AIP SUP means Aeronautical Information Package Supplement.
approved pilot means a pilot:
(a)   employed by the operator who has been trained for GLS approaches in accordance with the operator’s Flight Crew Operating Manual; and
(b)   who satisfies the requirements of sub-subparagraph 13A.2 (b) (i) of CAO 40.2.1.
GBAS means a Ground-Based Augmentation System.
GNSS means Global Navigation Satellite System.
GLS means a GNSS Landing System that is augmented by a GBAS.
GLS approach means a GLS instrument approach procedure designed by a certified designer and published in the AIP under Part 173 of the Civil Aviation Safety Regulations 1998.
I.M.C. means instrument meteorological conditions.
INTAM means internal notice to airmen.
NOTAM means notice to airmen.
4          Approval
                 A pilot of the operator’s A380 and B737-800 aircraft may use the Facility to conduct a GLS approach in accordance with the operator’s Flight Crew Operating Manual.
5          Conditions
                 Each pilot is subject to the conditions mentioned in Schedule 1.
6          Expiry
                 This instrument expires at the end of February 2017, as if it had been repealed by another instrument.
Schedule 1          Conditions
        1     Each pilot of the operator’s A380 and B737-800 aircraft must be an approved pilot.
        2     The GLS approach must be conducted in accordance with the AIP SUP, published by Airservices Australia, covering Introduction of Category 1 GBAS at Kingsford Smith International Airport, Sydney.
        3     In I.M.C., a pilot may conduct a GLS approach only to the higher of the “GLS approach chart” minima published by Airservices Australia and as amended by the operator’s INTAM or NOTAM.
        4     The operator must immediately inform CASA of any matter that concerns the safety of a GLS approach.
