Safety, Rehabilitation and Compensation (Definition of Employee – Defence Families of Australia) Notice 2015
 
I, ERIC ABETZ, Minister for Employment, make this Notice under subsection 5(6) of the Safety, Rehabilitation and Compensation Act 1988.

1              Name of Notice
                This Notice is the Safety, Rehabilitation and Compensation (Definition of Employee – Defence Families of Australia) Notice 2015.
2              Commencement
                This Notice commences on the day after it is registered on the Federal Register of Legislative Instruments.
3              Declaration
For the purposes of subsection 5(6) of the Safety, Rehabilitation and Compensation Act 1988, I declare that:
(a)    the class of persons specified in Column 1 of the Schedule, being persons who engage in the activities or perform acts specified in Column 2 of the Schedule, for the benefit of the Commonwealth, shall be taken to be employed by the Commonwealth; and
(b)   the employment of such persons shall, for those purposes, be taken to be constituted by the performance by such persons of the acts or activities specified in Column 2 of the Schedule.

Persons holding a current appointment to the Executive Committee of Defence Families of Australia (other than a person who is a ‘member’, as defined under section 5 of the Military Rehabilitation and Compensation Act 2004) who, for the benefit of the Commonwealth, perform one or more of the acts specified in column 2.
Consistent with the Charter of Defence Familes of Australia signed by the Chief of the Defence Force on 2 April 2014 and the Assistant Minister for Defence on 20 April 2014:
-          provide advice to the Minister responsible for Defence personnel, the Chief of the Defence Force and the relevant arms of the Australian Defence Force Organisation, or stakeholders on matters affecting the Australian Defence Force (ADF) members and their families, in order to inform policy development and decision making;
-          provide a forum through which ADF members and their families can raise issues affecting them individually or collectively;
-          assist families in contacting the appropriate persons or bodies on an issue;
-          advocate on behalf of individual ADF families or ADF families as a whole in order to promote outcomes that are beneficial to both the family and the ADF;
-          assist the families of ADF members who seek its help with advocacy to obtain information on the benefits and assistance available to them from the Department of Defence, their rights and responsibilities, and the Department of Defence policies that affect them, including by assisting the Department of Defence and other relevant stakeholders in their efforts to inform all families of these benefits, assistance, rights and responsibilities and policies, including any change to these.

Representatives of Defence Families of Australia (other than a person who is a ‘member’, as defined under section 5 of the Military Rehabilitation and Compensation Act 2004), who, at the direction or request of the Executive Committee of Defence Families of Australia, and for the benefit of the Commonwealth, perform one or more of the acts specified in column 2.
Consistent with the Charter of Defence Familes of Australia signed by the Chief of the Defence Force on 2 April 2014 and the Assistant Minister for Defence on 20 April 2014:
