CHAPTER 299

THE OBSTRUCTION O F STREETS
(PREVENTION) ACT

1. Short title.
2. Power to make orders regulating certain traffic.

OBSTRUCTION OF STREETS (PREVENTION)

(21st October, 1929.)

1. This Act may be cited as the Obstruction of Streets short title-
(Prevention) Act.

2. (1) The Commissioner of Police may make Power to make
orders regulating

orders- certain traffic.

(a) for the route to be observed by all wheeled
vehicles, horses and persons, and for preventing
obstruction of the streets in all times of public
processions, rejoicings or illuminations, and in any case
when the streets are likely to be thronged or liable to
be obstructed;

(6) for regulating or restricting the admission of
persons, other than public officers on duty, to all public
wharves and piers.

( 2 ) Any such order shall not come into force until it
has been approved by the Cabinet and published in the
Gazette.

(3) Any person who contravenes any order made under
this section shall be guilty, of an offence.

Police to give
directions for

3. (1) The Commissioner of Police may, from time
replation of to time whenever in his opinion it is necessary or desirable
traffic. to do so, give directions-

(a ) for the temporary stoppage of wheeled traffic
on any public thoroughfare;

( b ) for the temporary exclusion of wheeled traffic
from any public thoroughfare;

( c ) for the temporary diversion of wheeled traffic
into indicated thoroughfares;

(6) for keeping order in, or preventing any
obstruction of, the streets in the neighbourhood of any
theatre or other place of public resort.

( 2 ) Any person failing to comply with any such direction
when such direction shall have been made known to him
by any Police Officer, shall be guilty of an offence.

Penalty. 4. Any person guilty of an offence under this Act shall
be liable on summary conviction to a fine not exceeding two
hundred and fifty dollars.
