Federal Order approving the Convention on the Status of Stateless Persons

27 April 1972 (State on 28 September 1999)

The Swiss Federal Assembly,

Having regard to art. 8 and 85, c. 5, Federal Constitution 1 ; given the message of the Federal Council of 11 August 1971 2 ,

Sole Article

1 The Convention of 28 September 1954 1 On the status of stateless persons is approved.

2 The Federal Council is authorized to ratify the Convention.

3 The assistance of stateless persons under the Convention is governed by the provisions on assistance to refugees, which are contained in chap. 5 and 6 of the Act of 26 June 1998 2 On asylum. 3

4 The Federal Council is authorized to remove the reservation made by Switzerland on the subject of art. 17 of the Convention of 28 July 1951 4 On the status of refugees.

5 This Order is not of general application; however, it shall be published in the Official Collection of Laws.
