In the form of an exchange of letters between the Swiss Confederation and the European Economic Community on the trade regime for soups, sauces and condiments

Ambassador,

By letter of today, you have given me the following communication:

" I have the honour to refer to the negotiations between the Swiss Confederation and the European Economic Community on the regime applicable to mutual exchanges concerning soups, sauces and condiments.

In this respect, I confirm to you that the Swiss authorities, after abolishing, from 1 ^Er July 1977, customs duties ² On products that do not contain tomato of numbers 2104.20 (sauces; condiments and seasonings, compounds) and 2105.10 (soups) of the Swiss customs tariff, will waive the collection of a customs duty on the products of the same numbers containing Of tomato.

At the same time, the Community shall abolish the customs duties which it collects on the products of numbers 21.04 B and C (sauces with and without tomato) and 21.05 A (soups with and without tomato) of the Common Customs Tariff. I propose that, subject to the parliamentary approval required in my country, this new regime comes into force on January 1986.

Tables I and II of Protocol n ^O 2 ³ The agreement of 22 July 1972 between the Swiss Confederation and the European Economic Community will be amended accordingly. These amendments are contained in the annex to the present letter.

I should be grateful if you would confirm the agreement of the Community on the above. '
