0.183 original text Convention regarding the incorporation of the oldest part of the Canton of Bern to the diocese of Basel concluded on June 11, 1864, approved by the Grand Council of the canton of Bern on 22 June 1864 approved by the federal Council on July 9, 1864, Instruments of ratification exchanged on August 3, 1864, entry into force on 28 July 1865 the State of Berne having requested St. Headquarters through the top Swiss federal Council, the whole of the Canton of Bern, which was not attributed to the diocese of Basel during its reorganization in 1828, is incorporated into this diocese, and headquarters St. having welcomed the request, which received the assent of all the Diocesan States UPS, have been appointed as delegates responsible for negotiating this meeting by the top state of Berne : Mr. Mígy, President of the Executive Council of the Canton of Berne, and Mr. Stockmar, Member of the Executive Council;

But Mr. Mígy was named top federal Council President of the Conference, according to delegation of 10 June and communication of the same date made to Monseigneur the Pontifical delegate, and in his capacity as Government delegate having been substituted Mr. the Councillor of State Kummer, Monseigneur Bovieri that referred to notes by him addressed to the aforementioned federal Council on January 19 and February 25 this year.
After what gentlemen the delegates, under the chairmanship of Mr. above-named Mígy, in his capacity as delegate of the federal Council, as it is said above, exchanged their powers, and they have been found in good shape, they concluded, subject to ratification of their constituents, the following convention tops: art. 1. all part of the Canton of Bern, which was not attributed to the diocese of Basel in 1828, is now incorporated into this diocese, which will include the whole Canton, as its Catholic population. Thus reunited part extend so also the provisions of the convention of 26 March 1828, relating to the reorganization of the bishopric of Basel and the bubble of Leon XII, inter praecipua, may 7, 1828, according to which the Bishop there will exercise his spiritual jurisdiction.

Art. 2. the State of Bern will set a decent annual salary to the priests of the new part of the diocese and will take care to wear that of the parish priest of the city of Bern at a rate corresponding to the requirements of his position, as also to fill it of sufficient allowances to a Vicariate.
It will continue to keep in mind in its impartiality the improvements that the future could be required in this new part of the diocese.
