Section 1 Admission without examination in the training leading to the bachelor 3

Art. 1 1 Swiss certificates

The persons holding one of the following certificates are admitted without examination in the first semester in a section of the EPFL:

A.
Certificate of maturity recognised by the Confederation in accordance with the order of 15 February 1995 on the recognition of certificates of gymnasium maturity 2 , which is:
1.
Gymnasium maturity certificate,
2.
A certificate of maturity recognized by the canton,
3.
Certificate of gymnasium maturity conferred by the success of the Swiss examination of maturity in accordance with the order of 7 December 1998 on the Swiss examination of maturity 3 ,
4.
Federal certificate of professional maturity with a certificate attesting to the success of the supplementary examinations in accordance with the order of 2 February 2011 on the supplementary examination allowing holders of a federal certificate of Professional maturity to be admitted to university high schools 4 ;
B.
A certificate of maturity issued by Liechtenstein if the Swiss Commission of Maturity considers it to be equivalent to the certificates of maturity referred to in the let. A;
C.
Awarded by a Swiss high school (HES).

Art. 2 1 End of study certificate issued by a foreign secondary school

1 There shall be admitted without examination in the first semester in a section of the EPFL the persons holding a certificate of completion of studies issued by a foreign higher secondary school, where the following conditions are met:

A.
The certificate must:
1.
Be issued by a country in the European region which has ratified the Convention of 11 April 1997 on the recognition of qualifications relating to higher education in the European Region 2 ,
2.
Constitute the highest secondary school certificate of the country in question,
3.
Sanction a formation of a general character corresponding to a maturity recognised by the Confederation in accordance with the order of 15 February 1995 on the recognition of certificates of gymnasium maturity 3 , in particular with regard to the objectives, duration and teaching disciplines,
4.
Be of scientific orientation, and
5.
Provide general access to universities in the country that issued it (official certification required);
B.
The incumbent must:
1. 4
Have obtained a general average of more than or equal to 80 % of the maximum mark for the examinations of the certificate or, if it has obtained a general average of at least 70 %, be able to certify by file of non-ordinary skills in an activity conducted In parallel to his studies,
2.
Prove that it has obtained, where appropriate, a place in the country issuing the certificate for the field of study concerned, and
3.
Prove that he or she has sufficient knowledge of English and French.

2 For persons entitled to a right of residence as an employed or self-employed person or as a member of the family of such a worker, within the meaning of the Agreement of 21 June 1999 between the Swiss Confederation, of the one part, and the Community Member States, on the other hand, on the free movement of persons 5 Or Annex K of the Convention of 4 January 1960 establishing the European Free Trade Association (EFTA) 6 , and by extension for Swiss and other persons resident in Switzerland at the time of obtaining their higher secondary education certificate in Switzerland, the rate laid down in para. 1, paragraph b, c. 1, is 70 %, and para. 1, paragraph b, c. 2, is not applicable.

Art. 3 1 Academic Credentials

The holders of a bachelor's, master's or other degree, issued by a Swiss or foreign high school equivalent to that of the EPFL, are admitted without examination in the first semester of the bachelor's degree.

Art. 4 1 Validity of the FIFZ Intake Examination

Anyone who has passed an admission examination in the first semester of the Swiss Federal Polytechnic School (EPFZ) is admitted without examination in the first half of the training leading to the bachelor's degree in all sections of the EPFL.

Section 2 Post-examination admission

Art. 5 Certificates of maturity or studies

Is admitted in the first semester in all sections of the EPFL, after passing a reduced admission examination, any person who:

A. 1
Holder of a cantonal or Liechtenstein certificate of maturity or a diploma of teacher, where they do not meet the criteria of art. 1;
B. 2
Holds a degree in general culture;
C. 3
Is the holder of a foreign maturity certificate that does not permit an admission without examination under s. 1, but which gives access, in general, to university studies in the country that issued it. A formal certification confirming this access may be required.

Art. 6 Reduced Intake Review Branches

1 The Training Delegate 1 Determines on a case-by-case basis the branches of the reduced intake examination. It takes into account the training acquired, the language skills of the candidates and the specific requirements of the studies envisaged. The reduced entrance examination is conducted in French. 2

2 Entrant into consideration for candidates holding certificates referred to in s. 5, let. A to c, branches of the mathematical-natural sciences according to art. 8, para. 1. 3

Section 3 Post-examination admission

Art. 7 1 Principle

Any person who fails to comply with the requirements of s. 1 to 5 can only be admitted to the first semester of the EPFL after successful completion of a full admission examination. The full admission examination is conducted in French.

2 If the candidate proves that he or she has, in certain areas of Group 2, knowledge corresponding to the level of federal maturity, the training officer may dispense with the corresponding examinations. 2

3 The subject matter of the examinations must meet the objectives of the disciplines in accordance with Art. 9 of the order of 7 December 1998 on the Swiss examination of maturity 3 . 4

Section 4 Admission to training leading to a bachelor's degree after semesters in a high school And admission to the training leading to the master 4

Art. 1 Change in FIEs

1 Persons who meet the conditions for a semester above the EPFZ may change to the upper semester corresponding to the EPFL. The latter may, however, require that they acquire missing materials.

2 Persons in a situation of permanent failure in a FIF can no longer be admitted to the EPFL.

3 A candidate may be admitted to a new field of study only if, in the past, he has been registered only in one academic field. Fields of study left directly after a successful stage are not taken into account.

Art. 10 1 Admission of students from other high schools

1 Students from another high school who wish to study or continue their studies at the EPFL must provide proof of:

A.
They have sufficient language skills;
B.
They possess the knowledge required according to the study and examination plan of the section of interest for the semester in which they wish to be admitted;
C.
They have not suffered in the past, nor have they failed, double failure, or lack of success over two years in a field of study that is similar to those taught at the EPFL, and that they are allowed to continue their studies in the school from which they come;
D.
They have not been registered in the past in more than one academic field; the fields of study completed successfully are not taken into account.

2 The school may require students to pass an equivalency examination or to acquire additional credits within the specified period.

Art. 11 1 Admission to the training leading to the master

1 Any holder of a bachelor's degree issued by an EPF shall be admitted to the training leading to the corresponding master's degree in the EPFL.

2 He may be admitted to the training leading to another master's degree, by decision of the Vice President for Academic Affairs.

3 Any holder of a bachelor's degree of 180 ECTS (European Credit Transfer and Accumulation System) or any person justifying a level of equivalent education acquired in another Swiss or foreign high school may be admitted to the training Leading to the master's degree, by decision of the school.

4 The school may require candidates from another high school to pass an equivalency examination or to acquire additional credits prior to the beginning or, at the latest, at the end of the first year of the master's course. It may also require, where appropriate, that they carry out an internship in accordance with the rules of study within the same deadlines.

5 The admission of holders of a bachelor's degree from a high school with which the EPFL has entered into an agreement is governed by this agreement.

Art. 12 1

Section 5 Admission of Auditors, Admissions to Continuing Education, In-depth Training and Doctoral 5

Art. 13 Admission of auditors

1 The Delegate for Training may admit as auditors persons who wish to pursue teaching without seeking an academic title. 1

2 The training delegate may exclude listeners from certain lessons or admit them only insofar as they prove that they have sufficient knowledge and where the premises and the equipment at disposal and the conditions To allow it. It must indicate the admission restrictions in official publications. 2

3 If there is no limit on admission, the auditors are considered to be admitted when they have paid the auditor fee.

Art. 14 1

The Ordinance of 27 June 2005 on Continuing Education at the EPFL 2 And the EPFL Doctoral Order of January 26, 1998 3 Lay down the conditions for admission to continuing education, in-depth training and doctoral degrees.

Chapter 2 Intake procedure and skills

Section 1 General provisions

Art. 15 1 Intake Period

Studies leading to a bachelor's or master's degree can only be started at the beginning of a semester. Admission in the first half is possible only in the autumn.

Art. 16 1 Intake Decision

1 The training officer shall take the decisions under s. 1 to 13 on the basis of the documents submitted, in particular as regards:

A.
The admission of candidates as students in the first half of the year, including the obligation to pass examinations for admission and the determination of the arms of examination;
B.
The admission of listeners to lessons whose entry is not free.

2 The Vice-President for Academic Affairs makes decisions under s. 1 to 13 on the basis of the documents submitted, in particular as regards:

A.
The admission of students to higher semesters, including the requirement to pass admission examinations and the determination of examination branches;
B.
Moving from one section to another, including taking into account previous studies and reviews.

3 With regard to the admission of non-resident foreign candidates, holders of foreign certificates of maturity, the training delegate also takes decisions on the basis of reception capacity, determined in particular by staff Teacher and the places of study available.

Section 2 Provisions on admission examinations

Art. 17 Time of reduced admission examination

1 The training officer may require the candidate to pass the reduced admission examination before the start of the studies, after having taken a preparatory course organised by the EPFL or at the latest by the end of the first year of study. 1

2 Candidates who are required to write the examination in the first year of study shall have the same rights and obligations as students before the examination.

Art. 18 Registration and withdrawal of registration

1 The training delegate sets the dates and times for registration. He arranges admission examinations in collaboration with the Director of the Special Mathematics Course and the Intake Commission. Admission exams take place once a year. 1 2

2 Registration may be withdrawn within a time limit set by the Training Officer. The examination fees paid are refunded in this case. 3

3 A late registration withdrawal is not eligible for the refund of the examination fee; the withdrawal of late registration amounts to a failure where the applicant cannot prove that he/she has been prevented from meeting the delays due to certified illness By a medical certificate or compelling reasons.

Art. 19 1 Procedures for examinations

1 The Vice-President for Academic Affairs sets the method of inquiry (oral or written) for the proper conduct of the admission examination and taking into account the subject matter to be examined. The decision shall be published in an appropriate manner on the EPFL website, six months before the examination at the latest.

2 The training delegate appoints the examiner and, for oral examination, the observer.

Art. Work instruments

1 The working instruments authorised for the various branches of the examination, such as texts, tables, calculating machines, etc., shall be given in writing to the candidates.

2 A candidate who uses non-authorized work instruments may be excluded from the examination by the training officer; in such cases, he or she is considered to have failed the examination. 1

Art. Absence, abandonment and interruption of examination

In the event of absence or abandonment without a valid excuse, the candidate is considered to have failed the examination. Only the disease and compelling reasons are an excuse and allow for the possibility of a possible interruption of the examination.

Art. Pass of examination, acquisition of certain results in case of repetition

1 The work is rated from 1 to 6, with the required average of 4. Only whole points and half-points are allowed. The zero is reserved in the event that the student does not present himself, without just cause for the test to which he is enrolled, as well as in the event that he presents himself to the test, but would make a blank sheet. 1

2 The admission examination was successful when the notes of all the branches listed in s. 8, para. 1, let. A and b, on the one hand, and the notes of all the branches of group 1 listed in art. 8, para. 1, let. On the other hand, reached a weighted average of 4.0. 2

3 The group of branch 2 mentioned in art. 8, para. 1, can only be presented if all the scores obtained in the group of branch 1 attain the required average. The result remains acquired during a retry. 3

Art. Review Repetition

1 The candidate who has failed twice in the admission examination in a FIF is no longer able to repeat it.

2 Candidates who are required to undergo a reduced admission examination during the first year of study are admitted in the second year of study only when they have passed this examination.

Art. 24 Decision on the outcome of the examination, notification

1 The result of the admission examination of each candidate shall be determined by the admission committee in agreement with the experts.

2 On the basis of the report of the Intake Commission, the training officer shall communicate by decision to the candidates whether or not they have succeeded. 1

Art. 25 Relationship between the Special Mathematics Course (CMS) and Intake Examinations

1 Candidates who are subject to an admission examination in the first half of the bachelor's degree can be admitted to the CMS. 1 The delegate to the training reserves the right to make a selection according to the number of places available, on the basis of the titles presented or pre-entry tests at the CMS. 2

2 Candidates who have successfully completed the annual review of the CMS are exempt from the entrance examination in the mathematical classes-natural sciences . 3

3 A discontinuation or failure of the CMS is equivalent to a failure on the admission test. 4

Art. 26 1 Intake Commission

1 The Vice-President for Academic Affairs determines the composition and duties of the admission commission in the bachelor's and master's courses.

2 It may delegate the authority to make decisions under this order.

Chapter 3 Final provisions

Art. 27 Examination fee

1 Any person who registers for an admission examination shall pay a fee for examination in accordance with the Ordinance of 31 May 1995 on taxes in the field of FIF 1 .

2 The fees for examinations for admission to a higher semester shall be fixed pursuant to Art. 2, para. 1, let c of the FIF Domain Taxes Ordinance.

3 The candidate who represents himself in a review will pay the corresponding fee again.

4 The Training Delegate may, upon reasoned request, waive the requirement for applicants and award holders of this fee. 2

Art. 28 Intake Solument

1 Any person admitted as a student at the EPFL shall be required to pay a fee for admission in accordance with the Ordinance of 31 May 1995 on taxes in the field of FIF 1 The move from one EPF to another does not give rise to the payment of this fee.

2 No waiver of payment of this fee is granted.


Art. 28 A 1 Transitional provisions

1 A student who has changed a section as a result of an abandonment or first failure before the coming into force of this amendment has the right to change a section only once in accordance with s. 9, para. 4.

2 The provisions of Section 4 shall apply mutatis mutandis to the admission in a higher semester of the studies leading to the diploma of the EPFL.

3 For students of an EFA, the acquisition of 60 credits from 2 E During the third year of study is assimilated to obtaining a bachelor's degree.

Art. Entry into force

This order shall enter into force on 1 Er October 1995.

Transitional Provision of the Amendment of 22 May 2006 6

There will be no admission examination session in the winter of 2007.
