The measures included in Royal Decree 425/1985 of 20 March, which established the coordinated programme for the eradication of African swine fever, last modified by Royal Decree 333/1992 of 4 April, which The deadline for the development of the coordinated programme has been successful in the fight against this disease. However, there are currently areas affected by the disease which continue to require active health intervention aimed at their total eradication, given the serious economic damage caused by the opening of foreign trade. pigs with countries other than the European Union, which require, in order to admit Spanish products, that the whole country is free from the disease, while losses continue to occur in the areas considered as non-free and surveillance, in both the producer and industrial sectors.

Consequently, it is necessary to maintain the control measures that prevent the reinfection of the current free zone and allow the elimination of this infectious process in the areas where it still remains.

Therefore, the Autonomous Communities, on a proposal from the Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries and Food and after deliberation by the Council of Ministers at their meeting on 6 May 1994, have been consulted.

The deadline for the development of the coordinated programme for the eradication of African swine fever, set out in Article 1 of Royal Decree 425/1985 of 20 March, and last extended by the single article of the Royal Decree 333/1992, of 4 April, is extended until 4 April 1996.

Final disposition first.

The Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food, within the scope of his powers, is empowered to lay down the necessary provisions and to take the necessary measures for the development and implementation of the provisions of this Regulation. Royal Decree.

This Royal Decree will enter into force on the day following its publication in the Official Journal of the State.
